OCD Action is the national charity focusing on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
We provide support and information to anybody affected by OCD, work to raise awareness of the disorder amongst the public and front-line healthcare workers, and strive to secure a better deal for people with OCD. We are a dedicated charity with a clear vision, solid objectives and a real understanding of OCD and the impact that it has. Formed by a group of volunteers and leading professionals in 1994, the Charity has the volunteers, trustees and staff to turn its vision into reality. OCD Action is recognised as a strong voice for people with OCD, a vital source of help and the Charity that makes a real and lasting difference to anyone affected by OCD.

We all know how isolating OCD can be, it can make you feel trapped and cut off from the rest of the world. In this section of our website you can find out about the support that is available to anyone affected by OCD. Finding the right support and building up a support network can make a massive difference; it can give you the tools and the strength to fight back and make you feel that you are not facing OCD on your own.

OCD is a severe disorder
but it is treatable
OCD is a clinically recognised disorder which affects around 1-2% of the population. It is debilitating and paralysing. People with OCD experience intensely negative, repetitive and intrusive thoughts, combined with a chronic feeling of doubt or danger (obsessions). In order to quell the thought or quieten the anxiety, they will often repeat an action, again and again (compulsions).
One of the greatest challenges that people with OCD face is the need to fight both the all pervasive stigma of mental health disorders and the widely held belief that OCD is a mild or even "quirky" problem that is nothing more than hand washing. Many people now use the term "a bit OCD-ish" without understanding the onerous nature of the disorder in its severe form. This site offers lots of information in a format to suit you.

OCD Action was formed in 1994 to help those affected with OCD.
The Charity's 2012-2015 Strategic Plan sets out OCD Action's vision and the core activities that the Charity plans to undertake . Its purpose is to help the Trustees and the Director plan ahead and ensure that there are clear targets and objectives for each year, so that they are confident that all activities work towards achieving the Charity's vision.
Our vision is for a society where OCD is better understood and diagnosed quickly, where appropriate treatment options are open and accessible, where support and information are readily available and where nobody feels ashamed to ask for help - it's time to act.

Last year we helped over 355,000 people, thanks to you.
OCD Action would not be able to carry out its life-changing work without the time and money generously donated by individuals and charitable Trusts throughout the country. Last year, we directly helped 2,279 people through our project work and a further 335,932 people through our website, our forums and our downloadable information resources.
We are seeing demand for our services shoot up as our profile increases. And we now predict that next year our capacity will need to increase by at least 100%. In order to cope and carry out our plans for this year, we need to ensure we have enough volunteers and that we can raise at least £300,000.
