Five minutes at a time (poem)

Five minutes later.
Check my hands
Check my nails
Check my fingers
Pick the dust
Pick the dirt
Pick the germs.

Five minutes later
Find the killers
All over my hands
If they won't go
I won't get better

My arm goes up
I leave the room
Inch the door open
Can't touch, can't touch

Walk down the steps
Check my watch
Ten seconds to go
I've got to run

In the bathroom
Turn on the tap
Just in time
Kill the germs

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
I wash my hands

One, two, three
Put on the soap

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
I rub my hands

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight
I wash my hands

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten
I dry my hands

Walk back
Four minutes to go
Pinch open the door
Sit back down

Tick, tock,
tick tock,
Thirty-five minutes later,
Here we go again...
