Group details:
According to the University of Bath, Compulsive Hoarding affects between 1.5 - 1.6 % of the population. Hoarding not only has an impact on the individual but also on their immediate family, friends and neighbours.
The aim of the group is to bring people together who hoard their possessions, and provide a caring safe and non-threatening space to meet others in a very similar situation to themselves. A space where they can share their story and learn from others without feeling judged.
The group has been set up by Claire Abbott, a firefighter from Highlands Fire Station who works in the prevention department and is also a trained counsellor with a specific interest in addressing the underlying issues that may lead to a person's hoarding behaviour, and Jacqueline Kennedy who has spent many years working with people to de-clutter and organise their space, and more recently has been working with individuals with Hoarding Disorder.
What to expect:
- Introduction / House rules
- An understanding as to why people hoard
- Why members want to be part of the group
- Discuss what hoarding reduction tools can be used
- Explore how Yoga and Mindfulness can help people with Hoarding Disorder
If you would like to attend, please get in touch via one of the email addresses above, providing your name and contact number. Also if you require any further information about the meeting, please get in touch.
