On Saturday 7th February 2009, Françoise Geller and The Geller Singers put on a fantastic musical extravaganza, from classical music to pop (via gospel!) at the Rosslyn Hill Chapel in Hampstead, London.
All precedes went to OCD Action. Kitty, a OCD Action volunteer tells the story.
“My singing teacher Francoise Geller organized a concert on 7th February 2009 in Hampstead, London, NW3. The singers included adults and children and the programme as described in the local newspaper, the Ham & High, was “a musical extravaganza with everything from classical to gospel and pop”. The event was well attended and had a wonderful atmosphere.
We raised £1818 net of expenses and I’m absolutely thrilled. I had asked some of the other singers to bring some home-made food to sell and of course I also contributed several of my own sweet and savoury specialties. It was a lovely spread and our audience and singers enjoyed buying all the goodies and drinks.
We had managed to gather together some raffle prizes. We are grateful for the donations made by individuals and by some of the shops in Hampstead, such as Waterstones books, Snappy Snaps vouchers for portraits, an optician’s vouchers towards making of glasses and Molton & Brown perfumeries amongst others.
My husband gave a short informative talk. He explained about OCD, about the services OCD Action provides and what the money is needed for. He especially underlined that if anyone suspects OCD in a loved one, they should be encouraged to see a GP to obtain a diagnosis because help and treatment are available.
The OCD Action office was helpful. They produced a donation form which I left on everyone’s chair. This facilitated sending more donations to the office and in particular guided people to the OCD Action website. I also put out OCD booklets and GP information cards, many of which were taken. In terms of awareness this is great!
It is a well known fact that singing is an excellent activity. It is good for one’s health, improves breathing, and generally improves body and mind. It enhances the mood of both the singers and the audience! An event like this not only raises funds and awareness but also raises the spirits. It is fair to say that everyone went home happy!”
