  1. After going to my assessment at the Maudsley I heard from them today and they told me that I have been accepted for inpatient care at the unit in kent which I believe is the Bethlem. I'm now waiting to hear from them directly. I'm really scared that I won't be able to cope with it though. I'm getting pressure from my family who all want me to go and I fear I can't say no. If they say I can go and visit the hospital first then I think I'll go and have a look. Its just I have so many fears and rituals e.t.c that I think coping will be impossible.

  2. Daniel, i as you know i went to the Bethlam last month for my assessment, i was taken over to the Anxiety Disorder Residential Unit which is called Longfield House, the house holds 12 patients which is 6 males downstairs and 6 females upstairs.
The Unit is really nice and cosy , you have your own kitchen and laundry room and lounge with t.v. etc, you are completely in charge of yourself except for your treatments and therapies.
It is a very pleasing and nicely decorated unit where staff are extremely nice and kind, helpfull and above all understanding of your needs.
If you want to talk to me about it Dan you can give me a ring anytime.
I know you are in a bad way at the moment Daniel , you really need the treatment they can offer you !! and not to forget this hospital is the best in the country.
You cannot compare yourself to me Dan , YOU are a very young man who needs to get some sort of life back for yourself , at present you have very little to look forward too , you need to get better so that you can meet the right girl , get married ,have children, dont stay stuck in the mess you are in please Daniel, i listened to you last night and from what we talked about , i cant see you having much of a choice if you want to find some peace for yourself Daniel.
How do you feel about this yourself ? i think at your age it could be a way forward but i honestly do understand how frightening it can be also, so please remember your choices / options at all times are your own.

    lots of love Dan,

  5. Hi Brennie
I know this is probably my last hope of beating this illness but my fears and anxieties and rituals are so strong I don't know if I can beat them or even cope a little.

  6. Daniel, i know how your feeling right now honestly i do, the thought of going for inpatient care away from home is terrifying especially with ALL your contamination fears, rituals, compulsions, i know the idea of being in somewhere strange will be frightening you to death, BUT take your time over the weekend to think long and hard about your future ,this hospital inpatient therapy could be the answer to all your prayers. I know the risk factor will be extremely worrying for you but you will have plenty of time to think about whats best for Daniel

Dear Daniel, I think this is such good news. As I told you yesterday, I know of people who have been as severe as you, who could barely walk into the building. One man had not left his bedroom for over two years. He was afraid of everything and could see no hope. Like you he was terrified and depressed. Twelve weeks on and he walked out of the Bethlem unit a new man, free of fear.

Please do not base any part of your decision on Bren and I and our choice not to go. As Bren said, you are a young man with a future ahead of you that could be so bright and positive. But you need the right help, and that help is only available at a place like the Bethlem. You know you are too severe to respond to therapy locally.

Remember Fred Penzel's words about the hardest part of therapy being the day before you start! Think of all the new friends you will make, the support you will receive. Bren and I will talk to you any time. I'm not too far from Kent, so I would visit you at the unit if you would like me to.

    Love, Tricia x
