  1. As a new member who has been reading their way through the forum with great interest, I have seen a variety of nicknames and avatars.

So just to be nosey, what's the reason/s behind your nickname and avatar?

    I'll get the ball rolling.........

  2. ........ A Ronin is a masterless Samurai forced to roam alone and fend for himself.

My avatar is the face of a Samurai which I have tattooed on my back (you've probably spotted a theme here).

I run a Martial Arts club teaching Ju-Jitsu, the unarmed form of combat used by the Samurai. I have been heavily involved in the for 24 years - hence my fascination.

    Who's next?.........

  4. Hi Ronin
Nothing very special about my username, just that I HATE my real name and so I can imagine I am beautiful feminine Tess of the d'Urbervilles making all the men's hearts flutter - some hopes!.
I change my avatar from time to time, at present it's our geriatric hen who we think is about 16 and is now too old to live outdoors. She goes out on warm days and then pecks the door when she wants to come back in.

  5. Leelabird - Both your nickname and avatar are very sweet.

Tess - I'm sure you are a beautiful, feminine Tess of the d'Urbervilles with heart fluttering abilities. The hen pecking the door really made me laugh

  6. One day when my son was about ten we were visiting my mother. A neighbour called, carrying one of those horrible small hairy dogs that appear to be fashionable. I told my son that it was proof that Wombles and Rats could crossbreed. Hence Ratwomble.

My avatar is a picture of my daughter's gnome who was kidnapped and spent a year travelling and sending her photos. I think he's in India in the photo

  7. My avatar is just a little ad for the campaign to stop Gary McKinnon being extradited to America (http://www.freegary.org.uk/, http://www.autism.org.uk). Remember him? The one that hacked into the Pentagon computers to look for UFOs? My feeling is that if a somewhat stoned amateur could repeatedly get into such a critical system (he left silly messages and they still didn't notice), the Pentagon's technicians are the ones who should be in court.

"Wombat140" was invented entirely at random, while struggling to register with a website where every possible name seemed to be taken, and it stuck.

  9. Ronin. you can be my toy boy any day for a comment like that. I told my husband what you had written and he said "Tess of the D'Urbervilles is mostly a tragedy!".
