  1. I have been wandering what all of us with OCD may have in common, like why some of us are more prone to develop OCD than others. I know it is said that genetic factors could play a roll, I was born to my parents when they were at an older age, my Mom was 36, and my Dad was 40. I am wondering how many of us wore born to older parents and if that could somehow play part of the role of having OCD. Also has anyone else in your family had OCD?

  2. Hello Rena.

No-one else in my family has OCD, there is no genetic history of it. However, when I was born, my dad would have been 38, and my mom 34.

  6. I am not convinced there is any link with parental age - my parents were similar age to yours Rena when I was conceived but I was only in my early 20's when I had my son and he also had OCD - so has my sister's son conceived in her late teens. My view is that the genes are passed on down the line whatever your age.

I don't think there's a link either. My brother was born when my parents were in their early twenties. I was born when they were aged 33 and 34. Both my brother and I have OCD. I agree with Tess, the genes are passed on and age is irrelevant.

  8. Hi All, It really does seem like OCD is genetically handed down, I don't know of anyone in my family that has it, although I do suspect it in some family members as the do show symptoms of OCD, so it could be that they have it, but are ashamed to admit it. Major depression does run in both sides of my family and ADHD has been a major issue in my family for years. Thanks for the replies everyone.

  9. My Dad was 37 and my Mum 29.

It seems like my Grandad had OCD, apparently he was obsessed with cleanliness, when he cut his hedge he used a spirit level and was fastidious about being on time.

I'm not like that in that I have Pure-O ie the obsessions without compulsions but I suspect that's who I inherit it from.

    Cheers Quintana

  10. My dad also has OCD and my brother has it slightly.
When I was born my dad was 40 and my mum was 41.
The only link I could think there might be to having older parents is that maybe older people fuss more and could possibly make a child more anxious.

My mum was 19 and my Dad was 24 I think,

I'm not convinced there is a link in age or genetics it's socialisation.
None of my relatives have/had it until my Dad got a new girlfriend and she was always bordering on OCD just never quite reached I think I picked it up from her which isn't genetics it's socialisation - I grew up with her like that....

    I'm honestly not convinced
