  1. Hi everyone,

As I'm sure some of you will be aware I have OCD in the form of intrusive thoughts and cleaning/ordering. My husband has always suffered from anxiety and depression but over the last couple of years he has had bad episodes of severely anxious thoughts and irrational behaviour.

He rarely goes to the doctor as he has a severe phobia of being told by medical people that he has something serious wrong with him and the anxiety it causes him in going is worse than actually going.

At the moment I have just discovered the batteries have been taken out of the landline phone, I thought I needed to get a new phone, when I asked him about it he admitted that he has been scared about receiving calls and being told that he has something wrong, thats why he has taken the batteries out.

I'm really worried about him at the moment and of course my OCD has got inevitably worse as I am now anxious too. He has promised to seek help from his G.P. on Monday. I,m now wondering if his thoughts are OCD thoughts (Pure O) or will they be classed as anxious/worried thoughts, he doesn't have any other traits of OCD.

  2. Hi Bridget
Great to hear from you, was wondering how you are getting on. I'm really sorry to hear about your husband but he is doing the right thing in recognising that he has an anxiety problem and seeking professional help and I hope that you both get the support you need to help relieve your worries.

  3. Hi Tess,

Thanks for the reply. I was just worried about him and the possible effect of us both parents having anxiety issues and affecting my children.

They have both witnessed my husbands panic attacks over the years and the deep depression that he goes through.

Anyway I will look forward to Monday when he goes to the G.P. and just hope that he follows through with the treatment this time.

  4. Dear Bridget,

I don't believe we've corresponded before, and I'm pretty new here. I'm in recovery at the moment having had a bad 2009/2010 when I was off work for nine months.

I shan't bore you with the details. I've bored everyone else here and the posts are all there. I also have an unpleasant habit of writing extremely long posts, which I am trying to get over.

So I will just point out that my 14 year old son, Andrew, has recently joined the forum and if you wanted to ask him any questions about how it felt from a child's point of view he would be happy to answer them.

His name on this board is maxthedog, and he has read the above posts and knows that I am saying this.

Hope that in some way this helps, and I hope things go well on monday,

    David

  5. Hi David,

Thanks for that and by the way I'm glad that you've settled in on the forum.

I've been low key on the forum for a few weeks now as I sometimes don't feel I've got any sound advice to give anyone, it depends what my mood is like and it has been quite low lately.

Hope to chat to you again soon.

  6. Hi Bridget
I've missed you and I don't care whether you have any sound advice or not, it's you I want to hear from - especially what you've been doing with that revolving duster.

  7. Hi Tess,

The rotating duster is laying dormant at the moment which is a good thing! Anxiety is rising again and racing thoughts, I couldn't sleep last night but the cleaning is low key.

I start treatment again at CADAT next week Monday so that's good.

    Hope you are ok.

  8. Hi Bridget
Sorry you had a bad night. I had a nightmare then was afraid to go back to sleep so I kept thinking of nice images to try and get the horrible ones out of my mind, but they still keep coming back if I don't force my brain to concentrate on something else.
Good news about CADAT next week and I hope your husband gets some help too.

  9. Hi All,

Just an update, my husband went to his G.P., she was sympathetic and has referred him for counselling, so will probably have to wait some time.

I am going to go with him on Friday to his G.P. again as his medication (Amitryptilline 25mg daily) is not working and should be reviewed, he has been on this dose for 8 years. I can't blame the G.P. really because he rarely goes to the doctors because that is one of his fears.

Needless to say I am feeling quite depressed and am struggling with everything at the moment. I just wonder when the day will come when we are both ok again.
