  1. Sorry to sound so negative but things are really difficult and its impossible to move on. I'm seeing someone at the moment its every 4 weeks which is too long to see any progress, i'm wondering if its worth using any helplines for advice inbetween appointments. i dont want too many opinions or be overloaded with advice because the worry is so basic but so difficult to crack or move on. Not sure if seeing two people will help because they may have different ideas on tackling the problem. Does anyone feel that they improve more seeing two helpers.

    Thanks :x

  2. Are you also on medication? Sometimes with OCD you need more than just therapy. I think if you talked to your psychiatrist about medication, and continued therapy, you'd see an improvement. I wouldn't be functioning if it weren't for my medication.

    Good Luck,

  3. Not sure if medication has ever really cured anyone, having tried it in the past and its very difficult to come off. May get the st johns wort soon with winter coming that can help alot without the side effects.

  4. Well, of course there is no cure for OCD. But medication can help people tremendously, especially if paired with therapy. Not all meds work for everyone, and not everyone will benefit from them, but it's worth a shot if all other options aren't working out.
make sure if you do take medication, do not mix it with St. Johns wort.

  5. Does your therapist give you any homework between visits? Have you bought any books on OCD so you can become more familiar with the disorder and perhaps learn something from them which might help you? St. John's Wort is really for depression and not OCD so whether you would find it helpful, I'm not sure. I've never tried St. John's Wort myself. People have said that Vitamin B3 (Niacin) has helped their OCD. Some have even claimed that it cured them.

  6. Ive got homework to do writing down my thoughts and questions that keep coming into my mind. I put the answers down but am never really convinced of the answers i give. To some problems their are no definate answers, this is where i struggle and find it hard to let them go. Some books have good advice but i prefer to work with someone on my problems. Hopefully i can make my appointments every 2 weeks for a while its hard notice any improvement with monthly visits,

  7. Hi, try talking to your doctor to see if there is any group therapy you can go to. I went to one that had a 16 week program, I went 1 afternoon each week and got homework to do. Each week you had someone to check your homework and help you set tasks, as well as other people in the group that have ocd too with help at hand. I found that with taking medication and doing the group every week really helped. Once the group finished you could go to another one each month if you needed it.

  8. Hi there,

I kinda saw two people to help me originally I went to my doctor who then referred me to a psychiatrist who then referred me to a psychologist. Throughout the time my OCD was the worst I regularly seen my doctor and also my psychologist. I was given medication, fluoxetine I was given this to almost keep me on an even keel so I could tackle my intrusive thoughts and compulsive actions. Medication in itself I believe doesn't help, a combination of both CBT and medication helped me but I understand this is not the case for everyone. Also, when I got a bit better managed to attend an OCD support group and this also helped as everyone understood what I was going through and tried to help. I went to my doctor many times. she printed me off information on OCD she also made sure the medication I was on was right for me and answered lots of questions I had, which looking back probably wasn't the right thing to do because she was reasuring me with my intrusive thoughts but it helped me understand for example how HIV was contracted so when I thought I had contracted it from walking past someone or touching someone I could fight my thoughts with real medical information I had been given.
In short in my opinion, the more help you can get to manage your OCD the better.

  9. Tricyclic antidepressants can help to treat mental disorders such as depression.
