  1. Hi Everyone,

I just want to firstly say a huge THANK YOU to you all on here who have helped me through what has been some of the toughest times of my life so far. Without your help, support and advice it scares me to think what would have happened without you.

I know more than anyone that help, advice and just some words from fellow suffers is one of the best ways to get through this terrible illness but I also truly believe that we (ourselves) still have a very important job to do and that is to stay POSITIVE! Its the hardest thing when your dragging your bottom jaw around on the floor and feeling physically and mentally exhausted but if you can just find a place that raises a smile, you still have the power to fight and WIN this battle!

So for that very reason I would really love everyone to come on here during the Christmas period and write what they have enjoyed and found fun! I doesnt have to be Christmas orientated if you don't want it to be - even if its just looking at a crisp blue sky, a bright shinning star or even a funny film on the TV or jokes and funny stories told by family and friends. I know so many people are dreading this time of the year (I cant say im my normal festive self this year) but we suffer enough and DESERVE to be happy at this time of the year especially!

This is my gift to you all by creating the 'The Positive Page' which I hope will continue long after Christmas so that those who feel a little down can come on here for a different sort of therapy and hopefully we, as an external family, can really help those who are struggling.

Please feel free to add anything you want - try and keep it positive though

So I just want to wish all the team at OCD Action and all you truly brave, courageous and wonderful OCD suffers a very Merry Christmas and here is to a happy, healthier and bright New Year in 2012!

Take care everyone - Keep smiling no matter how hard it gets

  2. Ok so I will start...

I LOVE the stars! I find looking up into a clear crisp sky one of the most soothing things. If any of you are interested - Jupiter can be seen tonight in the sky. You cant miss it really. Its alot brighter than any normal star and is slightly bigger. I laid on the sofa tonight and could see it through the open blind - for a few minutes I found myself smiling and just remembering the 'good old days' whilst looking at the stars - sure it didn't last long - but even if you can find these few precious minutes where your concentrating on something positive its another huge step forward...Plus its actually really difficult to cry and have a long face when looking up

Give it a go - Its a big wide world out there and nature has alot to offer so try and indulge in what is free to us

  3. Hi ACB, thank you for creating this thread, it is a really good idea...
The thing I know will happen at some point during Christmas, and that is I have some fruit and nut chocolate... Now I'm a slave to fruit and nut chocolate! It is comfort food for me with a capital C! I absolutely adore the stuff!

    Hi ACB,

    Merry Xmas!!!

This thread you've started is a great idea. I totally agree with you. Positivity is a HUGE weapon in the war against OCD. After being a pessimist and feeling hopeless for years and years and years, I finally saw the light, and discovered that you can start to change your life through a change of attitude. (This is something I discovered through CBT.) You can CHOOSE how to look at things. So why not choose to see things in a good way?

I'm going to start with two things that I have enjoyed in 2011...

    (1) DVD boxsets. (Oh man, they really saved my life this summer! I was at a horrible low point, spending a lot of time at home or in bed. I started buying some DVD TV boxsets, and they really distracted my attention, and eventually I found myself getting drawn out of my own head.) Some TV series that lifted me up when I was down: "Entourage"; "30 Rock"; "Californication"; "Lost"; "The Wire"; "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"...and "Flight of the Conchords"!)

    (2) Seeing brilliant threads (like yours) on this forum. Seeing people who are in the depths of despair taking the time and effort to to try to lift other people's spirits, by starting fun, informative, or encouraging threads on this forum.

Actually, I'm going to add one more:

    (3) Seeing the Cheeky Girls (both of them) in WHSmith in Charing Cross Station in London one day. (They were dressed in identical coats and gloves, with identical suitcases.) That put a big smile on my face.

    Have a cheeky Christmas!!!

  5. Yesterday morning when I looked out of the window and there were four big cockerels lined up on the top of a chicken ark with one tiny robin in the middle, all evenly spaced - oh for a camera at that moment.

  6. I have chocolate, and it isn't rationed, I have a good supply that I can chew on when feeling down... I have my books to read and write, and I will, I will try to be positive about everything I do... I have to believe in myself, and I will try...

  7. Hello everybody,

I've been having one or two negative and nervy moments regarding money next semester. I'm further into debt than I've ever been as a student (Though, I only have a term left as a student.) Then I read this thread.

Being tight on money adds character.
Being tight on money will teach me the self-control that I lacked as a compulsive shopper.
I've got so much work to do I'll hardly notice.
Other people are in my position.
    I have CBT coming up.
I'm feeling better than I was.
I can improve as a cook, with less money to prepare meals. I love a cooking challenge.
Yeah I overspent this Christmas, but my gifts made people very happy indeed, and showed that I appreciate them helping me through this difficult time.
I can finally concentrate on the subject I love, rather than battle the OCD all the time.
I can do this. It's 9 weeks. It isn't impossible as long as I'm careful

Thanks guys, I just needed reminding what positive thinking was,

  8. Brilliant - and I would add to that, you are not in debt, you are one of very many others who have taken advantage of a goverment scheme to provide you with free education which you will only ever have to pay it back if you are earning enough money to be able to do so.

  9. PS I saw daffodils in bloom yesterday along the verges in Lostwithiel and St Austell - lots of them.

  10. There's a little girl in the front garden over the road dancing around with slippers on her hands!!

  11. Daffodils in December? Wow, remember last year? There was nearly a foot of snow!

My "debt" so to speak is the interest free overdraft they give students for 3 years, then an additional year provided you graduate, then slowly stagger back the overdraft with interest.

It's caused me so much anxiety these three years, panicking about money when I haven't needed to.

    Thanks for your replies,

  12. Oh, and also a bl**dy credit card

They really should stop offering these things to people who are too naive to know what having a credit card entails.

    Tue Dec 27 2011 11:40:46 #
  13. Hi Slog, Hi everyone... Yes, the credit card... I have one, but I try to be careful with it... I daren't max it out, cos I'd not be able to do the repayments... I worry about money anyway, but on a positive note... Credit cards are great for an emergency! And it didn't rain, so I didn't get soaked when I went out! Plus, I'm gonna have some chocolate in a minute, and that for me, is a massive plus...

    Tue Dec 27 2011 19:23:10 #
  14. Enjoy the choccy Wannabe, a student credit card has a low limit, £500 is mine. For most this wouldn't be a massive debt, but for me with my panics and whatnot it feels it. I feel half of the time as though when I leave uni I'll end up on the dole and my life bottoms out.

But - positive thinking no point thinking of job-hunting for a couple of months. Just got to do as well as I can.

If anyone deserves a few blocks of Fruit & Nut from this forum it's you Wannabe . Hope you're feeling better now,

    Slog

  15. Hi Slog, thank you for your kind words... I've got some fruit and nut right now, and it is divine... Postive thinking is a key to success, just a pity it doesn't come naturally, well not to me anyway! I've been out for a walk today... Been watching people in the so-called sales... It has been manic today! I didn't spend today though... I've got the credit card for some car repairs coming up... It is the only way we can do it... My carer has lost the care allowance for me, so has to find other work... They'll need the car to get to any work that comes available... I'll then concentrate more on my writing... I'm feeling much better thank you... Have you got any chocolate? Cos you deserve it too! More later...
