  1. I've got a appointment at the centre for anxiety disorders and trauma at the Maudsley on the 2nd of June. I'm really scared and I've been told it will take about 3 hours long. I live in Hampshire so it will take over an hour to get there and I have so many ocd issues I don't know if I will cope. Has anyone here been there ? What is it like ? I'm so scared and I don't want to have to stay there either, If they offer outpatient care that might be better. Anyone have any info on what they offer ? Any advice would be greatly received. Thanks

    Hi there!

That's great news about getting an appointment with the Maudsley! I know Brennie has been there recently and there are other people too that know much more about it than me! Could you take somebody with you to your appointment with you?

  3. hi
I just want to reasure about ur up-coming appointment. I have been recieving treatment there for the last few months and it is changing my life for the better. Infact it is doing wonders for me. I am 27 years old and suffered for about 15-17 years, during this time ocd has controled my life. The treatment I am recieving ia really having a positive impact on me. Hence me being able to use a computer, as ocd has stopped me for so many years amonst many other things. So I am having to re learn how to use one again which is believe it or not exciting. So I just want to sayto you, to view this appointment as a postive opputuninty that could change your life for the better. If you would like to discuss this any further please contact me at.....

  4. Yes is that the maudsley Denmark Hill London. I made amazing progress going there if its the same maudsley I attended you will recieve the best advice and help available anywhere. Each session is taped and videod so you can listen to the session when you get home. The therapy will help you just be honest and clear and tell them everything. A team of therapists will review the video and come up with the best solutions your problems. Its not like seeing any old psychologist you will be well looked after and properly assessed you will be given some homework to do after every session. If you stick with it you will improve I hope that makes you feel better good luck with the treatment :)

Dear OCD Lonely, As everyone has said, you will be seeing the best possible people and they will do everything to put you at your ease. Be absolutely honest with them about all your problems and concerns, tell them you'd prefer outpatient treatment. That's all they do at the Maudsley unit, but as you know the Bethlem is linked and they can suggest inpatient treatment there. Discuss everything, write notes of things you want to say, in case you come away realizing you forgot something.

But, whatever they suggest, try to trust their judgement. You know that they told me I was too severe to treat as an outpatient and really they are in a better position to judge than we are. Explain why you want to receive outpatient, if they suggest inpatient, but listen to their reasons. If the Bethlem unit is suggested, I hope you will take Bren up on her offer and speak to her about it. She will reassure you that it is not a hospital ward and is very informal. I hope you will take her up on her offer anyway! She is a very sweet lady and she makes me feel better every time I speak to her.

I will be thinking of you.

  7. OCDLONELY, it was good to speak to you yesterday, we had a good natter did'nt we :)
Good luck with your appointment next week, you will be fine .... Daniel try to take on board everything Tricia has advised because she knows more about the Maudsley than myself, my assessment was at the Bethlam which is a part of the same Hospital Trust.
Keep in touch :) you never need to be OCD LONELY because now you have got us to speak too ,

  14. Thank you all for all your messages of support. It means alot. I went to my assessment yesterday and it went o.k. The lady I saw was very nice. The appointment took over 4 hours and I was quite exhausted afterwards. I've never answered so many questions in my life. The lady I saw thinks that inpatient care is the way to go. The hospital that its in is in kent. I'm now waiting to hear from them next monday on whether or not they will treat me. Thanks again for all your kind words of support.

So pleased you got through it OK. I know a lot of people here were thinking of you! You were very brave, I'm so glad it went well.

I would imagine the inpatient treatment will be at the Bethlem. Bren will be able to talk to you about that. It's the best unit for OCD and not like a hospital atmosphere at all. Mysteryman has been to the Bethlem as a patient, you could PM him, too. He had similar problems to ours. Everyone I have spoken to who has been to the unit has said there is a camaraderie amongst the patients which is so crucial to their improvement. It's very different from working as an outpatient, facing so much of the therapy alone. There's great team spirit at the Bethlem! Some people I know made life-long friends there. You certainly won't be OCD 'Lonely' there!

  18. OCDLONELY, we might even be in there at the same time , you certainly wont be ocdlonely with me i'm a chatterbox X-D

On a serious note, i was taken round to see the Longfield unit for our disorder at the Bethlam Royal and the atmosphere was really nice and friendly.
I have always been scared of hospitals , but i am really looking forward to being admitted onto this unit because i believe it is my last resort to find some sort of normality in my life.
