Don't know if I've mentioned it already, but there's a forum called OCDTribe Glad might put the survey on. It's mostly American and pretty big.

Thanks so much for the suggestion Wombat.
Don't we want this to be British though?
Hi Jess
Anne is having a few days break from her computer and the Book and has asked me to reply to any questions about it on the forum in the meantime. I think the Book was originally intended to be British but the survey is on-line and there have been a lot of responses from overseas. Also Andrea, a member of this forum from America is working with the US OCD Foundation whose members are also sending in questionnaires. OCD is the same disorder wherever you come from in the world. The things you think about will be influenced by your environment and your culture but the intrusive thoughts and anxiety will be just the same whoever and wherever you are. As far as I know Anne has had more completed questionnaires from people living in Britain than from elsewhere but ones from overseas are every bit as welcome. The questionnaires are entirely confidential and Anne is the only person who has access to them. The aim is to obtain as many completed questionnaires as possible in order to get a comprehensive picture of how OCD affects people's lives and to learn the best coping strategies. For instance, Anne has told me that half of all respondents have said that they hide their OCD from family and friends due mostly to embarrassment and shame which I find very sad in this supposedly enlightened society. After 40+ years of living with OCD myself, I had hoped young people might find it easier to talk about their OCD with their loved ones than I did when I was first diagnosed.
So, once again, please can I remind everyone reading this that the survey will close at the end of September. If you haven't done a questionnaire and you don't know how to find it scroll down the right of the screen to "What's New" and below to "OCD Survey Posted June 1, 2010", click on this and hey presto, there it is. You can do it on-line or print it off, do it manually and send it to

Not nice.
No one here hates ya Jess and we have ways of dealing with cyber bullies.
Good.
Hi all
Just to answer some of your questions.
When I first though about writing this book in December (my husband's idea actually) it was going to be British. However OCD is a world-wide condition in that there is a similar percentage of sufferers (2-3%, but more in my opinion) in every country, according to the professionals. So as Joyce rightly says, the difference is merely cultural.
The contributions I have had from OCDers in the U.S. and several other countries shows that we all have similar symptoms and similar reactions to those symptoms. In fact, it is quite uncanny to realise that someone thousands of miles away has the same thoughts and responses as I do. This surely suggests that our brains work quite differently from non-OCDers and that it is a condition rather than an illness.
Another important reason for making the book international is to club together ideas and hopefully to make treatment more accessible in other countries where it is not readily available for cultural reasons or due to lack of expertise.
On the forum front, I have tried to get several other forums to advertise the project, but, alas, have not always been successful.
On the progress front, we have 137 completed surveys- so 63 to go. We are still happy to accept new contributions but will be sticking strictly to the closing date of 30 September. There will be a huge amount of work to do to turn this into a first class book. So please can I ask all those who have promised contributions but have not yet delivered to send them before the closing date. All of them are equally precious and I am looking forward to recieving them.
On the Face book front, the page is for carers, families therapists, friends, as well as for OCDers, so signing up does not mean coming out. Please come along and say you like our page. FB is a very powerful medium and is safe if you set up your security settings.
Love
Anne
Hi, just wanted to let you know I've sent in my contribution to your book.
Hi Sarah
Thanks very much
I have read it and stored it. As with all my other contributions it is inspiring and beautifully written.
Our book is going to be truly inspirational.
Anne
xx
Dont be silly Jess, I think you are great and I'm American.
I find that there are many cyber bullies from both sides of the ocean and all around the world. Just have to be careful and you always have a choice to respond or not respond to them.
By the way, this project is successfully uniting a few OCD communities and its still in process...should be quite powerful upon completion just for the fact that it has so many contributers. No one person could make as rich a compilation...I dont think therapists or doctors even have that range of input. . .if we do it right, it will be quite valuable to our community worldwide.
Andrea
Hi Guys
Well the personal accounts and chapters have been pouring into my inbox this week. Thanks so very much!!!
We are still hoping for more completed surveys though. I see that there are quite a few new members on the forum. If you have not yet completed a survey, please will you consider giving up 30 mins of your time to do so.
We are writing this book for charity. All the proceeds will be donated to OCD charities including OCD Action.

Hi folks
Have we changed the target to 150 completed questionnaires?, I'm still hoping for the 200 - there are still 5 weeks 'till the deadline, just one a day would almost get us there, so please anyone out there with OCD who hasn't done the survey yet, please keep them coming in.
Hi Tess/all
No we have not changed the targets. We have always hoped for 200 completed surveys, but with the surveys falling off I have been trying to reach 150 at least before we close.
I am still hoping to get some manual surveys from self help groups and I may be able to get the survey posted on another US forum.
The surveys which have been completed have provided extremely useful statistical information which will be included in pie charts at the back of the book.
For instance we have been extremely worried about the number of OCDers who have self harmed or have attempted suicide. We are desperate to stop other OCDers from doing this. The way to do this is to publish facts and figures so doctors will not think these are alwys cries for help. More to the point, even when they are, it is because the sufferer needs urgent help from a well trained professional and not six months or so waiting for admission.
This is one of the many issues we are looking at in our survey.
Of equal importance is the effect of OCD on relationships. You have seen from the recent postings how OCD makes finding relationships really difficult.
All of you who have not completed a survey, please give up 30 minutes of your time to do so. This will make so much difference to the qulaity of our book.
Anne the editor.
ps exuse typos struggling with eyes today...

Hi
Last posting of the week. Just to say, that I am still hearing from forum members who did not know either about our book or our survey.
If you have forum friends who have not been on for some time can you ask them if they have completed the survey please.
We would so love to get to the magic figure of 200 before the closing date.
Best wishes to you all - have a great weekend!
Anne the editor and friends

Hi everyone
Great news, well past the 150 now, in fact 158 completed questionnaires in at the last count and just 4 weeks to go until closing date. So please, if you haven't done one yet we need you to fill in a questionnaire and be part of this brilliant project.

I knows! We need 42 survey thingys.
Still not e'nuff!! Hurry up peoples!
Hi
Busy busy! 36 to go now. I have just received my first manual survey from the self help groups and I have more to come. Sheila from Latitudes has also kindly put the survey on her forum today in several places. So hopefully we should get some from that wonderful forum too.
169 in now, and just 25 more days to go (no, not 'till Christmas) until the deadline for the survey.
Christmas ain't until December.
COME ON PEOPLES!!! Fill in the surveys!!!! *jumps up and down*
Good morning all.
Don't know about your part of the world, but the weather has changed here in the West Country and it is raining cats and dogs.
It was pouring on and off yesterday too, and I took the opportunity of being stuck indoors (partly due to my OCD) to write my chapter on the various tools I have used to get my OCD under 85% control.
It took all day (I wrote it in my head in bed first)- I know some of you have more inspiring places - Tess you know what I mean!
Well, I know I left it to the last minute - but I am pleased with my efforts and it has reminded me of some of the tools I forget to use when I need them. So as with all of you OCDers who have already contributed, It was very therapeutic for me.
We almost have a full book now - but it won't be complete without the few very important chapters and articles yet to come in.
So just to remind those precious few that the closing date is 30th September. We have chosen this date because we have a small board meeting with a few of us partners on October 9th.
Thanks to you all, this is truly going to be a wonderful book.
Many, many thanks
Anne the editor.
Poop, 30th of September... When's that? Soon I think... Erm, I'll type up them haikus in a minute. I was gonna anyways, honest!
Don't tell me off!
Good morning all
I have some very good news to share today. We have reached, and passed, our magic figure of 200 surveys. So now we have a survey and, in turn, a book when it is finished, which will have real credibility. Lets hope it will change things for all of us (in terms of treatment and understanding) and give us a brighter tomorrow.
Of late, I have received one or two incredibly moving stories on the surveys from you which you have not felt able to share before; some are to do with treament and meds and others the loneliness caused by OCD.
The survey gives you an opportunity to tell your story with complete anonymity. None of us will ever know who you are unless you wish otherwise. So, if you want to have a voice in our book, please consider filling a survey in.
Very warm regards
Anne (the editor) and Joyce, Tricia, Richard, Andrea, Chris, Niki and friends
Hi again
I just want to thank Cliff Snelling for the help he gave me in completing the survey and the huge support he has given me throughout this research period. It has been well worth the effort Cliff - 200 completed surveys will give real credibility to our book as you rightly say!
A second point to make is that there are only two weeks before the deadline for personal stories. Particularly needed are a few more success stories and articles for the last chapter where we are looking at coping tools other than CBT etc, and relapse prevention. These tools can be anything truly anything- jewellery making, creative writing, cookery, playing instruments, sports and yoga as well as meditation, Reiki and massage.
I will remind you again next week.
Very best wishes
Anne
