I don't believe there are any groups in this area and the nearest I know of is Bristol so just wondering if there are many people in this area needing support? I am considering putting a group together if there is a requirement??

  2. Hi Stroud53,

If you get in touch with the OCD Action office on 020 7253 5272 they will be able to give you advice and support if you are considering starting a new support group.

Thank you, will do. Do you know how I would find out if there was any requirement for a group?

  4. Hi Stroud53
Suggest you make some enquiries via your local NHS Trust and any mental health charities which operate in your local area becaue they will have contact with people with OCD who may benefit from a support group. You could also try the letters page in your local newspaper or even, if you feel brave enough, do an interview for the local radio about OCD and they will publicise your contact details for people to get in touch. You also need to think carefully about venue, especially accessibility and cost and what time you are going to hold the meetings. We have afternoon meetings down here in Liskeard and it works well because most of our members are not in paid employment. We also work on an 'it's alright to be late' policy which allows for repeated checking and other OCD problems. Good luck in your venture.

  6. Hi Strowdy

I believe there are moves to get a group going in Swindon - see the OCD-UK forum for that.

Let me know if you'd like some tips as I've been running groups for a few years now.

    All the best

    Thanks Stephen.

Swindon is a fair distance from me but thank you anyway.

I don't feel I need a group for myself, I just realised there was a definite need for one in my area when I was ill!

I am considering looking into setting one up so we shall see!

    Thanks
