  1. I have been reading up on the connection between childhood strep-throat and it's association with PANDA'S. There seems to be a very strong link between OCD and strep-throat that causes the body to attack it's own immune system, therefore leading to possible Tourettes syndrome, tics and OCD. Did anyone else develop OCD after a strep throat infection or Scarlet fever? I do remember when I was a child that I had a really bad strep throat infection prior to the onset of my OCD. Has anyone else read up on this?

  2. Hi,
I havnt heard of this corelation before only pandas and strep throat. I have no idea what triggered my ocd. I do have epilepsy but had really bad fear of death of a child. I grew up in the cold war so anything that happened as war as i was concerned was going to cause a nuclear war

Hi, the first time I read about this was in a readers digest many years ago. A young lad's OCD got better when his blood was filtered for antibodies to his basal ganglia and he remained well on antibiotics. I have also seen a small study in which some people with adult onset tic disorder and OCD were found to have these antibodies. (The basal ganglia is a part of the brain in which differences or damage has been associated with OCD, Tourettes and Parkinsons)

I think it is found to be the cause of OCD in only a small percentage of people.

I had sort of assumed that my difficulties were not related to streptococcal infection, but I just did a little looking up on the internet and now I do wonder if streptococcal skin infections could cause a similar autoimmune response atall. I had a strong autoimmune reaction to a skin infection in eczema on my foot, my whole face blew up so I could hardly open my eyes and I was put on steroids. Also an elderly lady where I used to work had an OCD flare-up and cellulitis. These could be group A streptococcal infections as well. Group A streptococcal throat infections are implicated in PANDAS.
