  1. Hi,
I have recently started swimming but have found that im panicking about not going and so it has become part of my ocd so that i go twice a week.

  2. Dear swan.

I swim too, most mornings before work and I too feel guilty if I don't go. But I'm not sure where the OCD starts and just normal wanting to do things ends. Perhaps it is if you find yourself thinking obsessively about missing your swims, or feel that here are rituals associated with swimming.

If you just feel bad because you missed a swim, I wouldn't worry too much

  3. i got a bit like that, with doing dumb bell exercises, just had to do it every night until i overdid and strained myself so i couldnt actually lift anything at all for ages,
maybe you could try something a little different, like jogging now and again to break the swimming "spell"??

  4. I don't know if this counts, but if I have a certain food one day, I'd need to have them another day as well - so it fits perfectly with my crazy obsession for even numbers.

Like if I ate pasta today, I'd need to have pasta tomorrow. Or another day, but that'd just make me forget about it and then remember it and feel all guilty and upset.

So I often end up having two same foods for two consecutive days. Sickening, really. Especially if I ate something I didn't particularly enjoy.

  6. Hi folks
I think this is all about managing our OCD and I see no problem with channelling it into a routine which involves fitness and enjoyment. If you swim daily and feel a need to do it, so what, as long as it doesn't adversely affect anything or anyone else. Make a pact with the OCD about how often and how much time you will spend doing it and then challenge the OCD when it tries to spoil the enjoyment by turning it into a ritual.
