Why do elephants paint their toenails red?

  6. So they can be seen when they are floating upside down in custard.

What's big and red and lies upside down in the gutter?

No, I haven't seen one hiding in a cherry tree and that is because they are hidden, but I have seen one floating upside down in custard. Perhaps he fell out of the cherry tree.

This answers the riddle of why George Washington chopped down the cherry tree. It was because he didn't want elephants hiding in it!

  15. What came first, the chicken or the egg?

    Sun Jan 16 2011 10:35:56 #
  16. The chicken as an egg can't occur without an animal capable of laying it. In other words the chicken evolved to lay eggs.

But in terms of riddles - it depends on which one was the faster as to which came first

  17. We had a hen who would only lay her eggs on the bonnet of our car - this is absolutely true, I am not making it up. All the other chicken used to stand underneath waiting for it to roll down and grab it and she wouldn't lay when anyone was watching. One day my husband hid behind the wall and as the egg was laid he jumped out and caught it before it hit the ground. We ended up with a fist shaped egg and that was the day we learned that eggs are like soft jelly inside a membrane as they are laid and the shells harden within seconds as they are exposed to the air. If the egg drops into water as it is laid it will stay in it's jelly like state and when you take it out of the water it will not harden. We sometimes have to fish jelly eggs out of the water trough.
So neither the chicken nor the egg came first the answer is jelly.

The cockerel came first - and fertilized the egg.
