  1. Hey all,

I am relatively new to this site.
i am a Canadian exchange student studying in York, England. My first week here something terrible happened to me. I was assaulted in the worst way possible as a woman.
I have been under a lot of stress lately trying to deal with all these thoughts and feelings. I am a bit scared that my OCD will pic up again. I'm getting insomnia now, and sometimes images of he did to me before I sleep.
I have friends here, but i've been here 6 weeks. There's a counsleor at the school, but I don't see her until two weeks from now. And, at that, she kind of pissed me off in the last two sessions.
Please give me any feedback as soon as possible.

    Hi Trofsky

    I have PMd you separately.

I am so sorry that you were assaulted.

You need to talk about this openly as it is too much to bear alone.

    Love
    Anne

    Hi

Please PM me and talk about it. I am here for you. It is important to find out if you should go to the police or a doctor or both.

  6. Dearest Trofsy,

I am so sorry for what has happened to you. It is very important that you tell someone and if it is possible to report the assualt to the police with the support you have, if your friends know about it and also to a doctor if you are registered with one.

The awful symptoms your experiencing are common unfortunately for someone who has been assaulted and your symptoms and images relate to not feeling safe and unprotected. It is very important to ask your doctor to refer you to see a professional therapist who can help you. Whilst I am not in the habit of telling people what to do, in this situation I feel I need to. I have also experienced domestic violence and work with issues surrounding the abuse. I have openly shared this with you so you do not feel alone.

Regarding the OCD, there is a possibility that this traumatic experience could trigger off the symptoms. For this reason I have suggested you speak to a doctor. The high levels of stress you are experiening at the moment is related to the abuse, but not to the OCD.

If you can report it to the police, they have an organisation which they work alongside with , called ' victim support' who will support you in a very empathic manner and try their best to help you access services in your area.

Once again I am truly sorry for what has happened , and like the lovely people who have offered their support here, I am also very willing to support you.

Please do not cope with your symptoms alone.

    Pam

  8. all right

    Thanks for your help.
I spoke with a classmate today about it--someone I have an establihsed trust with. Anyway, she said to just put the past in the past. Don't let it get to me and to take advantage of the situation by enjoying my travelling plans. You know, focusing on why I'm here, and not what happened.
Can't let stuff like that ruin my purpose of coming here. So, I am just going to focus on hanging out with friends, getting homework done (yuck!), and making travelling plans. i am going to Retford this weekend, Liverpool the next. From March 29-April 20, is easter break here. During which time I am going to look at London, Paris, Munich, Berlin, Warsaw, and Krakow. I might have to cut one out in order to see everything for more than 2 days.

Anyway, trying not to dwell on what happened. As Forrest Gump said, ''shit happens.'' And, as was explained to me from my classmate, we learn and grow from experiences like these.

  9. In addition,

I am not worried anymore about having an OCD relapse. When I was 19, CBT gave me a lot of stratgies, but the number one source of healing and growing is believing in yourself. I'm only 22, but I've been through a lot. And my posychologist said that I should give myself extra credit for being able to function quite well without medicine (not that that's a bad thing to be on meds, just that some people it works for, some people it doesn't).
    so thanks. once again.
