  1. Hi all since my move i have been so unsettled and suffering badly with the ocd. Today i saw a new doctor and just told him everything about how i was feeling. He has suggested that on top of the 60mg prozac he has prescribed propranolol 40mg up to three times a day if needed. Has anyone been on this medication (i think its called a beta blocker) and if so how did you get on.

    Many thanks

  2. Hi Liz, welcome back to the forums... It isn't easy... I'm on the 60mg of prozac/fluoxetine myself, and also getting used to having moved house too... I'm sorry, but I don't know about beta blockers, but it must be good if doctor has prescribed them for you. I just wanted to say hello... Hopefully someone else has been on them.

  3. Hi Liz -

never had them myself. But I know that they work against anxieties, social anxiety in particular, and against outward symptoms of anxiety, such as sweating, trembling, and so on and so forth.

Now, I don't know the circumstances of your moving house in detail, but for many people the new environment indeed brings social anxieties with it.

So, if you don't have any physical conditions that may speak against the use of this beta-blocker, I'd say: just give it a go. I can't see any objections then. It'd be just a very practical, hands-down measure.

    Cheers, Cuthbert.

  4. Thanks both for your replies. I have really had enough of ocd at the moment i cant seem to focus on anything but panic its driving me round the bend. Apparently i am on a high dose of prozac already and i think the doctor said that the beta blockers were to help with the more physical symptons such as heart racing etc when i get into a panic. Not sure if it is the right medication for me as i get more thoughts than anything else but if they calm me down it would be good. Apparently people take them sometimes just before going on stage as they are good for stage fright etc. Thing is i am working out that they are more of the thing to take in advance of something not so much for ocd as i can never predict an attack coming on so i cant really take the tablets in advance although at the minute i am just taking them 3 times a day it does say on the box "when required take 3 times a day" so considering my ocd is with me continually in one way or another i have just decided to take one at breakfast, lunch and dinner and see what difference if any occurs.

Hope you are all well sorry i havent been on the forum for a while its just that i have been struggling with the ocd and although i have one humdred and one things to do all i feel like doing is hiding under my duvet. Will this nightmare never end? By the way all my new years resolution which i am still sticking to 13 days later was to give up alcohol and it is getting easier each day so with that on top of everything else you can see what a position i am in. Take care all.

  5. Hi Liz, well done on sticking to your new year resolution... Yes, the nightmare will end, it has to, but I don't know how yet, and I like it under the duvet too, for me bedtime is solace, warm comfortable, and feelings of safety... With your new meds, I think you are doing the right thing, take them now as needed, in this difficult time, 1 tablet 3 times a day as suggested by your doctor, and see how it goes...
