  1. Hi I would just like to introduce myself to the forum. I am the Mum of an 8 year old boy who I feel might be living with OCD. This is from observing and reading OCD literature. His symptoms are matching and touching rituals and repetitive questions of the "is it bad if I...?" or "am I lying" type, that the literature seems to call "scrupulosity" (a term I rather like the name of!). Looking back I can see things going back to nursery school, but the symptoms especially the latter have got more acute in the last 6 months. We are being referred to Camhs via a supportive SENCO at school but do not know if he will get a diagnosis (I know i must be wary of "self-diagnosis") or any support, e.g. CBT. I just wanted to say it's very helpful to find this site and forum as my husband and I are finding it tough at times. Most of the children related stuff seems geared to teens (although I have age-appropriate books for him and OCDUK have good pages), but I wondered if there are any other parents with primary age OCD kids out there?

  2. Hi Julie,

    Welcome to the forum.

OCD Action has launched a major project to raise awareness of OCD in schools. Visit our OCD at School website. From the home page of this website just click on the green "OCD at School" panel.

This is a major project and a huge financial investment. The project is just starting initially in the London area but it is intended to roll it out further in future. There is opportunity for parents to be involved from all over the UK and parents outside of London may be able to introduce the project in their own area. Full details are avilable on the website and from the OCD Action office.

    Best wishes,
    Nimrod

  3. Thanks Nimrod for the suggestion. I have not been able to access the school content today, it keeps downloading and then disappearing, but I will look at it again and will get there with it soon I am sure.

  7. Hi
I just wanted to join in here too as I have an eight-year-old daughter who has been undergoing assessments at our local CAMHS (unfortunately they have been terrible but that's another story). One of the few things we have got out of them over the recent years is that she suffers from obsessive tendencies (one other psychologist told me she was OCD but they seem reluctant to commit themselves to paper on this).
Anyway, after hearing that she doesn't have autism or Asperger's (which was what they were focusing on) I am now seeking help with dealing with her OCD. It's such a relief to hear there are other parents out there going through the same thing as it's quite isolating otherwise. What we struggle with is knowing to what extent the OCD affects some of her behaviour and also achievement at school and what doesn't ... and we don't have the help of a SENCO person either. We've felt recently like we're on an extremely steep uphill battle and finding this website has been very reassuring. Good luck with your son - I hope he and you all get the help you need.
