  1. Hi

For nearly seven years, I have compulsively plucked hairs from my top lip. I done it to the extent that my lip is now visible scarred. I also pluck from moles on various site from my body.

I do want to stop because frankly, I am fed up. The last few years have been really hard for various reasons and for the first time in ages, life is sort of on an even keel. So I want to be completely "well" (for want of a better word)to enjoy life.

My problem is I, as a female, do have to remove hairs from my top lip - otherwise, I would have an unslightly moustache. I want to get to a point where I can just use normal hair removal techniques (ie, wax).

Does anyone have any suggestions about methods I could use?

  2. Hi

I suffer from Trichotillomania, which can be quite distressing when hairs are pulled from the facial area.

Medication and/or CBT is one route.
I have had a course of CBT and I would mark on a sheet when and why I would pluck, which would bring it to my attention and then replace it with another activity, such as clenching my hands - simple in theory!

This is a website which contains actual resources which my therapist would use, such as the sheets.

    Hope that helps?

    Good luck

    Hi movingongirl

Just to clarify, do you mean just methods to stop the hair plucking or also methods to deal with the hair you have on your top lip? (as lots of females have to, especially if you are a brunette). Sorry, just wanted to be sure.
