  1. my daughter has recently been diagnosed with ocd after the signs beiing there for appox one year. she has sexual thoughts and ideas that constantly pop into her head and has the need to touch objects repeativly and a certain number of times.
it has been quite stressfull and still is as i find it hard to talk to people due to the nature of the ocd and also as my daughter is not comfortable with people knowing so dont want to break her confidence.
she now attends camhs once aweek which seems to have made the ocd worse but they say this is normal.

  2. Hi smitc01,

    Welcome to the forum.

I waited to see if any parents with children with OCD would answer before replying but as none have I didn't want your post to go unanswered.

If you have read other posts you will see that we are a friendly forum and do our best to support each other. I don't think that you've broken your daughter's confidence by posting. It must be very difficult for you dealing with your daughter's OCD. You say that you find it difficult to talk to people about her OCD, but here on the forum we all either have or care for someone who has OCD and therefore will try to help and support you all that we can.

Please do use the forum so that you don't feel so alone and isolated.

    Take care

    Trudy

  3. My local CAMHS has details of a support group for young people with OCD it may be worth asking at your next appoitment. OCD getting worse when you start to treat it is common for everyone. it is good she has had an early diagnosis not undermining the impact and difficulty that you are experiencing. As a child i wouldnt have wanted people to know. Agree with Trudy you have not broken her confidence.
Post whenever you want/need to. YTheir are other paents who use the site
    Take care

  4. I am sure you didnt break her confidence. When I was 9 ( i read somewhere your doughter is nine now, sorry if I am wrong) I really had stron relationship with my mum and I didnt want her to tell anyone even the father. So she seeked help for me on her own except for anyone knwoin and I was happy about that.
Good luck with your doughter! Hope she'll get better

  6. Hello. i've read this quite late on but just want to say that the help you are giving your daughter is amazing. I have a fantastic rel'ship with my parents but still feel the pain of their having never acknowledged my OCD. I'm 32 and have had OCD since age 7. In fact my OCD 'behaviour' was punished and my dream of all dreams would have been for my parents to have helped me. I was so lonely and scared. So...just wanted to say 'well done to you' and, no, you have not betrayed her - these forums are invaluable to help understanding of OCD - such an odd and distressing illness. Thanks.
