Hello Jockboy, I am so sorry for your loss. It is very easy to see how such a devasting experience could set off obsessive compulsive disorder in anyone with a tendency. Are you getting any help with this from your doctor? Lots of other forum members say that a lack of sleep and not getting out makes their problems worse. Are you in contact with any support groups for parents who have lost a baby to cot death?

    Best wishes, lil.

Hello Jockboy, just wondered if you had tried clicking on the word 'checking' to the right of your last post (in the Hot Tags)? This takes you to a list of previous posts from other members with checking problems, so you can see if any relate to your experiences.

  5. Hi Jockboy, I am so terribly sorry for your tragic loss. I have children as well and losing them is absolutely my greatest fear.
At the very least, do try to relax about your 4 year old son's breathing at night. Cot death just does not happen to children above about 1-1.5 years of age, so it's very unlikely that he would suddenly stop breathing unless he has some other serious illness.
Have you tried limiting your rituals a little? Like maybe allow yourself one round about the house before you go to bed, and then leave it at that? You will feel more uncomfortable to start out with but it would be a step in the right direction.
I wish you the best, and hope you can get some relief soon.

  6. thanks sarah yes i have tryed to to limit my checking and i cant do it. it drives me mad i keep trying all the time not to. its like i had my tv on the wall i had to take it down cos i always checked the wall bracket to make sure all the bolts are tight i done that about 20 times a day keeped takeing the tv off the wall make sure all the bolts were tight. i know what u are saying about my 4 year old son and i know its rare but i know it can still happen cos i know adults who have went to sleep and never woke up and that is a form of cot death but called adults cot death i know it rare but the way i think i think it could happen again and cant help it am getting help and i am trying to do thing everyday to try and take my mind of my checking but its hard but i keep saying to myself i can do it i can do it so so hopefully one day i can
