OCD As a Result of Infections

  1. Anyone heard about this? There are indications that OCD could possibly the result of quite common bacterial/viral infections (notably early-onset OCD, which starts at about age 10-12). Culprits: Group-A Beta-hemolytic Streptococces (GABHS) and Borna Disease Virus (BDV). These matters are under research. Mind, these infectious agents are quite common and not the result of any parental neglect or lack of personal hygiene. As it stands, it looks like a form of ordinary bad luck.

    Imagine the wicked irony: one becomes an obsessed washer because, without knowing, one was infected 5 or 10 years earlier... strange, but it could be true...

  2. Very interesting Cuthbert, I am anxious to see how the research turns out. I do recall a severe strep throat infection prior to the onset of my OCD and have always wondered if it could of triggered the onset of my symptoms.
