  1. Twice this year I have read articles about young actresses claiming to have OCD (Freida Pinto "Slumdog Millionaire" and Charlize Theron "Monster")Freida Pinto article http://www.nowmagazine.co.uk/celebrity- ... ave-ocd/1/ Charlize Theron article http://www.starpulse.com/news/index.php ... s_from_ocd

What on earth is going on in Tinseltown??? Has OCD finally become as fashionable an accessory as a puppy in your evening bag and a baby? They both claim to have OCD to do with their closets. "I can't sleep if I don't reorganise my closet."

I'm finding this trend extremely annoying. It makes a joke of the disorder.

It just goes to show how truly shallow these actresses are to think that faking a serious brain disorder will make them seem more "human" and give them some kind of "depth of character".

    PAH!!!!!!

  2. I just noticed looking at the Freida Pinto article it says in related articles that Alesha Dixon also says she has it. They'll all be jumping on the bandwagon soon!

How on earth did this trend get started??!!!!

I don't know Moocher, wish I did, because I am also sick of it. I was just talking to my mum and she was saying how few people have any idea that this is a debilitating condition. Several of her friends either make light of it, or poke fun. My daughter-in-law's doctor and midwife, when asking about inherited conditions, said OCD is absolutely nothing to worry about, it‘s a minor problem, apparently.

When will people realize that this is hell and not some trendy condition!

P.S. I thought one person in Hollywood would have helped our cause, and that's the late Howard Hughes. Obviously actors, who must have heard of him, don't realize how he suffered. Perhaps there should be a sequel to The Aviator, showing his fifteen years living as a recluse, too afraid to eat properly, to leave his home or even shower and change the sheets on his bed.

P.P.S. Maybe comedies like Monk are partly to blame?

  6. These people who flipantly say they have OCD should definately walk in " a true " OCD sufferers shoes for just 24 hours to experience what severe OCD really feels like !!!! .... they would not be so flippant about this disabiliting illness after experiencing what some of us contend with every day / night.

  7. i can't believe the 'reorganizing my closet' comment, ridiculous. it is totally becoming a 'trend' you always hear people say "omg i'm SO ocd about that!!" it's so insulting.

  8. All these actresses are doing is reinforcing the idea that a lot of people have, that OCD is something to do with being a bit particular about cleaning. Too many people on TV say,"I'm a bit OCD about this, I'm a bit OCD about that." They don't mean they have OCD, they mean they just like cleanliness. Nothing to do with OCD.

Someone said on the forum before that their friend saw the Aviator at the cinema and people were actually laughing at the OCD scenes. So if they made a film that concentrated only on Howard Hughes' OCD, would that also be viewed as comedy?

  10. That really upsets and annoys me, they must just think OCD is something really trivial like arranging some cushions on a chair because it looks a bit messy and you're not keen on mess! No, that is called being tidy or houseproud not OCD. Nobody seems to realise how much OCD takes over someone's whole existence and how terrifying, isolating and depressing an illness it is. I've known people who say oh yeh I get a bit ocd about this or a bit ocd about that without actually knowing anything about it, almost as if they think its a choice to be the way we are. It's definitely not right for celebrities to be making light of it like they are. The stigma for depression has only just started to lift and people can accept it more as a real illness since it is becoming so common but i don't see that happening with OCD anytime soon sadly :(.

I've only just read that, I can't beleive people would laugh, that is so cruel. Nobody would laugh if someone was in a wheelchair and if they did everyone would think they were a complete moron so why do people laugh at mental illness?!
