  1. i just wondered is it a thing with ocd... that noise is a problem?
i can't bear loud noises.. people next door bang their car and house door constantly... and i jump each time... feeling terrible at times..
one night last week i lay awake listening to thunder(that was like 1000 atom bombs ).... and watching lightening illuminate the bedroom... but that didnt worry me... it's only noise made by people that scares me.

  2. Blueboy,

Many years ago I lived in a flat with my wife. We were unfortunate enough to have loud people above and party people below us. As a result I became very sensitive to noise and had to move out for a while. Looking back I now can see that this was my first major OCD episode. I became obsessed with even the tiniest noise from above or below.

So I can identify with you greatly. In fact I am still sensitive to noise from neighbours. Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you.

Hope this is of some help

  3. Hi Blueboy yes me too i cannot stand loud noises my neighbours play music and bang doors lucky for us we are only in rented and should get back into detached soon. I am never quite sure why i am so sensitive to noise as it doesnt seem to bother the rest of my family half as much as it bothers me.

    Take care

  5. Hi Blueboy i was just wondering how long ago it was that you came over from Ireland? I am almost certain that moving away from my home of 22 years has had a really big effect on my ocd and not for the better. I think its because i know i will be moving again at some time and so i still feel unsettled.

It must be hard for you with no family or friends around? We are here for you on the group though.

  7. I read in Lee Baur's book that OCD sufferers are often what is termed as Highly Sensitive People- he talks particularly about being sensitive to noise and other things and that the nervous system in those people (I include myself in this)is finely tuned. It certainly goes with the highly sensitive ideas we have as OCDers doesn't it? That we worry a lot, beat ourselves up over past events.. I hang onto guilt about things, think about my thoughts too much. The section in Baur's book is pretty good actually...have you read it Blueboy?

  8. sorry spelling mistake- the book is by Lee Baer, not Baur!
