The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) have issued a clinical guideline on interventions in the treatment of OCD and BDD within the NHS in England and Wales (there are separate arrangements in Scotland).
The guideline shows what can and should be done for sufferers and their families and carers. The guideline will help raise awareness of OCD/BDD to healthcare and other public service professionals and gives a good indication of treatments and other services patients and families and carers can expect from the NHS. If anyone feels that their treatment is not in accordance with the guidline then they may wish to raise the matter with their healthcare professional. Similarly, if anyone feels that their NHS healthcare provider is not providing care in accrodance with the guideline they can write to their MP or any other person or body that can influence provision.
Raising awareness of OCD/BDD is the single most important thing we can do for sufferers, their families and carers.
The guideline can be found on the NICE website
