  1. Hi everyone, hope you are all ok.
I am feeling so sick I have to keep lying down. I have had nausea since starting Clomipramine 2 months ago. I saw my pysychiatrist last week and he thought the nausea was because of taking Citalopram as well. He advised me to reduce the Citalopram, which I have done. Now I feel even more sick and lightheaded. All of this on top of usual OCD stuff is really getting me down today.

I keep waiting patiently for it to pass and the Clomipramine to start making me feel better but I seem to be feeling worse every day. I am seeing my psychiatrist again on Tuesday and will get his advice. Was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if so, how long before improvement?

    Thanks
    Bridget

  2. Hi Bridget,

Sorry to hear you're feeling so sick. When I was taking escitalopram and felt sick the GP that I had then, said to eat little and often, and to eat ginger for the nausea. The ginger does help, it's also recommended for morning sickness and travel sickness.

I hope it helps and that you feel better soon.

Dear Bridget, When do you take your Clomipramine? Some doctors recommend a morning dose, but my psychiatrist told me to take it in the evening to reduce nausea.

I would do as Trudy suggests, eating small amounts frequently might help and ginger is good.

I know some doctors are reluctant to prescribe Clomipramine with an SSRI, because the side-effects tend to be worse, but it’s strange how your nausea is increasing as you reduce the Citalopram.

As you are still not benefiting from taking Clomipramine, maybe your psychiatrist will take you off it gradually.

It is strange how greatly psychiatrists differ in their views over medication. Mine will not prescribe anything at all. I then asked to try a combination of medication, but he refused. As you know, I did take Clomipramine for many years, but I have only been on two other drugs. Prozac did seem to work, but I was taken off it because of side-effects. Seroxat didn’t help and I am now told I am resistant to all medication! My psychologist was horrified by the psychiatrist’s attitude.

I do hope you get some relief from this soon. Constant nausea is awful. I had nine months of it during my first pregnancy and will never forget the experience!

    Love, Tricia.

P.S. Sorry, Bridget, I've read your last PM and realized you answered that first question.

    Good luck for tomorrow.

  5. Hi Trudy and Tricia, thanks for your advice. Today I have felt more sick than yesterday, I have to lie down a lot as its worse when I am upright. I have spoken to my G.P. today and have decided to stop the Clomipramine. I cant feeL any worse than I have been the last few weeks!

Cant stop long I have to go and lie down.
    Hope you are both ok.

Dear Bridget, I don't know if you are stopping the Clomipramine altogether or reducing it slowly. If you are stopping it abruptly you are likely to feel even worse for a while. That's what happened to me. I came to no harm, though, just felt terrible for a few days.

    Please write when you can.

    Tricia xx
