  1. :-? Why are'nt we as chatty as some of those who suffer from ocd is it because of the nature of bdd that we are secretive or just plain shy. I know from my own experience that stigma is a big factor and in some cases a little embarrassment but I have noticed how quickly the ocd sufferers seem to rally around each other. I know in the past I have said that talking through these forums had little effect and that I requested someone to talk to me by telephone but since then I have seen that it does not work. maybe if us bdd sufferers were as bold as our fellow ocd sufferers we also could get a regular collective of chatters going. So what do you think about what I have been saying!
Hope to hear from you soon duchess.

  2. Hi,

I think your idea of BDD sufferes chatting is good, but as you have said, by the nature of the disorder I dont think many would take up on the proposal. I will though if others are interested.

  3. Hi

I think talking between sufferers is great, Alcoholics do it through AA and as a group tackle their problems and draw strength from one another.

If its to hard to leave the house and meet face to face then why not leave social sites like Twitter or Facebook.

Im set up on Twitter http://twitter.com/mikegyde

I'll post my thoughts, feelings and interesting articles.

It would be great if you joined so we can all form a community and tackle our BDD together, anyone is welcome.

    Regards
    Mike

  5. Hi Duchess and anyone else interested !
As an ex BDD sufferer, I would like to become part of a community to chat about BDD. I feel certain that it would help BDD sufferers, knowing that they are not alone, and to be able to talk to other sufferers about how they cope with the distressing perceptions, that BDD makes us believe about our face and body.
Due to the very nature of the condition, I do not think that sufferers would want to chat openly online about their BDD, but maybe we could talk via e mails to each other? You can e mail me on ocd.npton@yahoo.co.uk (this is the e mail address of the support group that I run) if you would like to talk further.

Hi All! I am actually a life-long OCD sufferer (and yes the forums over there do attack each other because everyone's experiences are so different and people get very defensive) I recently acquired BDD symptoms ever since putting on an additional 20lbs on my 98lb body due to my OCD medication. I was devastated and obsessed with my weight I even deferred my enrollment to my PhD program because I was so disturbed by my appearance. I thought my life was over. I was just constantly weighing myself and throwing up then repeating it. It was the worst feeling. I am now 99lbs again but when I am sitting still or laying down I think my arms and stomach are constantly getting bigger. I have to get up and run to the mirror to make sure.

There I shared a little bit of what I have and still am going through. I want to hear your stories and I promise I am not one of the people in the OCD forums that are judgmental or quick to attack
