  1. i feel so much freer of my ocd... i dont think of ocd at all now.. and i havent even begun full cbt... that must be good?
my main issue now is my s.a.d
i keep falling asleep... the light density is not enough to energise me... and thus i cant keep up even with bills... i've just learned that my subscription to sky is restricted..and phoned them... but.. i rarely look at tv anyway except for corrie or the community channel..my life goes down the tubes in winter and at this time i really need help... anyone know of anything? i virtualy hibernate at this time of year...i think i am affected severely.

  2. Hi Paul
I have heard that light boxes can be extremely effective - how about cancelling the sky subs and saving the money to buy a light box.

  4. Hi everyone... Yes I aree, plenty of light, bright, white light... I have a light next to the computer to light up the keyboard... When I used to do drawing, I had a flourescent lamp over the board, making the paper light up bright... Even Christmas lighs can be nice to look at, but the S.A.D. Lights are the best if you can get one for a good price...

  5. Music! I normally have a timetable of music I listen to throughout the year. In the winter it's normally comforting music and in the summer relaxed music.

And like the others said, lamps would be a good start.

Good Luck and Well Done so far!

  6. I was told to rise early and restrict how much time I sleep. The most important thing is exercise in the fresh air. A psychiatrist once spoke about this on a radio programme and he suggested walking outside and occasionally looking up at the sky. He added that the sun this time of year is weak enough to be able to do this and will allow maximum light absorption. Diet is also important, of course. Try to eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables.

  7. thank you all so much as always... yes i have a light box now several years... but i never found it beneficial... as BT said,,, i think better to be outside and i beleive that is the way forward for me... my life is hell with this this year... just after feeling i got ocd on the run..now this comes to the fore...i must try so hard to deal with this.. God its not easy when we have ocd then a whole host of other stuff messing with our minds... yet physicaly i feel fantastic...even after sitting up all night, as i did last night to 10am... and only now i have got up from bed.

  9. Hi there, welcome to the forums... There are a couple of Threads on this very subject in the forums already today, check out The one from Londoner about David Veales lecture at this years conference, that I didn't get to, but wish I had now! There is information about what to expect of your sessions... I've found out that mine will be recorded on CD so I can replay them during the week between sessions... That is gonna be interesting... You will more than likely do a bit of esposure towards things you worry about, and supported response prevention, that is to de-sensitize you to various situations...
Expect to enjoy it I think, it will certainly be interesting!

  10. Hi Paul,

You'd feel a bit better if you occasionally saw the light of day. Don't be up all night and then sleep all day. You need to get yourself back into a proper routine so that you can get out in the sun.

  11. Been trying to get back onto a regular schedule myself recently, though it was never quite that drastic! With me it was more that I'd get ready for bed, then when I was finished I'd start thinking about something at the last moment, and before I knew it an hour had gone past. And then the same thing would happen when I was about to get out of bed in the morning.

I got a few dozen pennies and put one in a jar every time I got up or went to bed by the time I'd decided on, and gave myself a prize when I'd used them all up. It seems to have worked quite well, you might try it.

  13. Hi Blueboy, yes, it is depressing how short the days seem to be... It gets dark so very early now... I end up having the lights on a lot of the day now! It won't be long before the days draw out again, and we have lighter evenings again, but for now it is just the plod along til spring comes, and everything starts to hopefully look hopeful again...

  14. Mm suppose that might be a problem. Sorry. I don't tend to get that problem myself, so I was OK - I did often get muddled over whether I'd already taken a penny out or not, but then I just guessed. Probably my counting ended up completely wrong but it's the thought that counts!

Did you know the days have already started getting longer? Hard to tell in this weather, though!
