    I'M BACK!

    Band: The Black Keys
    Album: Brothers

The Black Keys are an American band from Ohio, mainly focusing on Blues, and Rock and Roll, made up of only two people, Dan Aeurabach and Patrick Carney, taking positions as lead guitar and drums.

Titled "Brothers", their lasted album was released in 2010, to positive reviews, and contains a number of tracks, based around heavy riffs and raw emotion. Overall, the album is very good, with standout tracks nearing the end of the album "These Days", "Unknown Brother", where feeling is really shown through lyrics, and also heavy bass rhythms in "Sinister Kid", which coupled with unison vocals really shows some power to the piece.

They way the pieces have been structured throughout the album also adds interest and creates a journey throughout listening to it, with it's highs with "Next Girl", about the freedom of being able to be single again and not making mistakes which he did with his ex, to "I'm Not The One", with the build up of the head of the song really showing Dan's feeling, which relays that the band take effort into the songs that they create. "Black Mud", placed halfway through the album, almost feels like an intermission, based just as an instrumental, and this helps to differentiate the pieces.

Why do I say this? The only real negative complaint, I have about The Black Key's is the repetitiveness and ideas that they use. Although, the pieces are fun to listen to, they aren't all that interesting, with riffs used over and over to buff the music up. Unlike some albums I have reviewed, some of the tracks are hard to differentiate between and this is somewhat disappointing and makes me feel that their talents have not been used to the best of their ability.

But overall, Brothers and The Black Keys in general are a very modern blues band to listen to, with great fun tracks to delve into, and makes excellent driving music!

  6. Time to reawaken the shop.

Been studying Brit Pop in Music, and have been immersed in Dark Side Of The Moon by Floyd. It's amazing. I don't think I need to review it, it's been out 38 years :O

What's every one else been listening too?

  9. Hey Guys,

Been on a big music dash recently to up the songs I can listen to when drivng. Come across some great funk and soul 70's stuff.

Recently I downloaded 'Roy Ayers'-'Red, Black and Green' produced during the 70's. Has some real nice grooves to it, and Ayers is a master on the vibraphone! Check him out! Some of you might know some of his more renound works such 'Everyone loves the Sunshine'.

Also on my list today is the 'Menahan Street Band' and 'The Budos Band' from USA. Although a recent band, they also take much influence from 70's films.

'Menahan Street Band' is a collective group of musicians that came together to produce an album called 'Make The Road By Walking'. They produced some highly polished work, and is great background music for working or relaxing. Check them out, fully instrumental but produce some fabulous pieces.

'The Budos Band' were also part of the MSB collective, but are also a group in their own right, taking heavy HEAVY influences from the deep South, with thick guitar riffs and blaring brass melodies. I've been listening to their most recent album 'The Budos Band III'. Check them out if you're into any 70's southern music!
