  1. Hi,
I went to see my psychiatrist yesterday and discussed an ocd treatment centre I had find on the internet. His response was that he would rather I went to the Maudsley or similar. So decision now is for my social worker to look into Maudsley ect and then to see if funding can be agreed. I have been to maudsley before once a week. But he is now saying that he would like me to be an impatient, I wasn't expecting this going for a week to a centre is one hting but being admitted into hospital is another thing. I am really anxious, I am aware that it will take some time, as most appropiate place needs to be agreed on, then pct funding agreed then waiting for assessment and then waitingf for admisssion if all previous steps get go ahead. Very scarey and numb.

    Hi Theresa

I went to the Bethlem for 3 or 4 months during the 1990s. I would personally recommend it.

  3. Hi Anne,
One of my fears is the lenght of time i will be in hospital for. When i was first diagnosed i was off sick a lot so my bosses tried to sack me and i had to fight them to keep my job. I was transferred to another team, whilst my boss is really nice my fear would be that they would take me down that route again and i would have to fight that as well as being in hospital. one reason for the suggestion of going into hospital is so that i can concentrate on getting free of the ocd and not see someone for an hour and then have to go back to work

    Dear Theresa

I so understand. This is a really difficult dilemma for you.

My situation was different from yours. I could no longer work by the time I got to the Bethlem. I would go into work and go into the sick room and cry and cry and then go home and they did not know what to do with me. In the previous few years I had been admitted to my local hospital for months on end (for depression due to my OCD) and so was having loads of sick leave and as a result was being bullied at work. Had my GP /psychiatrist got me to The Bethlem 8 years before that I would not have had to go through any of that.

It would really help you if your Gp etc were to explain to your work that it will benefit both you and them if they allow you the three months to get control of your condition. I left work after The Bethlem. But as my nurse rightly said The Bethlem was a great investment as I did not need any treatment for 12 years.

I personally think that you would benefit from the 12 weeks in The Bethlem. You really want to get control - that is absolutely clear from what you have written. The treatment there is second to none and being with fellow OCDers for such a long period is total magic.

I do so hope this works out for you. Once you get that control even if you have a relapse you know the way back to control. It was the best decision I ever made in my life.

So you have my support one hundred%.

    Very best wishes
    Anne

  7. Hi,
Thankyou, when I nearly lost my job every proffessional involved in my care wrote to occupational health but is was a sheer miracle that I ddin't lose my job, I know all proffessionals would do the same this time round. But not sure of my employesrs reaction, perhaps I should get myself preganant you have more rights, any one who is reading this and is preganant please dont take offence, its just their is legislation to support me yet I work for a local authority who still thought they could sack me.

    Hi

I know the prob. I worked for the government all those years when I was ill and they were really difficult to negotiate with. I got the welfare officer to fight my case more than once and won. He was the one who got me early retirment on sick. I think they got off lightly as I was getting severely bullied. As you say, it is not easy fighting your corner with OCD. But you have a serious condition which needs urgent treatment and they should take this seriously - this is really unfair on you.

Please keep me/us updated and fight them tooth and nail for what you deserve.

    Hi Theresa

Please try not to worry. Go and see your GP and tell him how important this is to you.

In the meantime just try to take it one step at a time.

I so remember how you feel and am here for you every step of the way.
