Hi
Basically i was reading about BPD (borderline personality disorder) and i realised that i show 7 of the 9 symptoms, and you only need 5 for diagnosis :s so i was wondering if anyone has BPD and if so can they help?

Hi,

BPD is a complex condition and can only be diagnosed by an appropriate professional.

Many symptoms that you might have seen when reading about BPD can also be indicative of other conditions such as OCD and depression. If you take any symptoms in isolation without taking a full history you cannot come to a diagnosis. Even a reputable psychiatrist wouldn't be able to diagnose this particular condition with out seeing you more than once.

So if you are worried the best thing to do is to see your GP or whoever deals with your OCD. Just tell them your symptoms notthat you think that it's BPD and let them decide what the problem is.

Thanks for the advice. I really don't need any more disorders, i already have three that have been diagnosed but i think you've got a good point about the symptoms maybe being down to the other conditions, they might be. I'll try to talk to my therapist and tell her the symptoms and see what she says about it.

The official (DSM) definitions of many mental conditions do often say things like "this symptom only counts if it isn't accounted for by another condition".

Although I think some of the conditions for BPD are that you have other problems like self-harm or eating disorders etc.
