  1. i just read this about sertraline(i have been prescribed this) and i am hyper anxious about taking meds..

In pregnant women taking sertraline, the drug was present in significant concentrations in fetal blood, and was also associated with a higher rate of various birth defects. Similarly to other antidepressants, the use of sertraline for depression may be associated with a higher rate of suicidal behavior.

    Are you pregnant?

  4. You beat me to it David, I too was going to ask that question.

A lot of medications mention in the patient information leaflet about an increased risk of suicidal ideation, all that means is there have been some cases and both the patient and prescriber need to be aware.
All medications have potential side effects but that doesn't mean that you'll necessarily suffer any of them. In fact many on the forum take medication with little or no side effects. They are just that potential side effects. You also have to weigh up the inconvenience of a minor side effect such as a dry mouth against the potential benefit of improving your OCD and so your quality of life. I had to do that with the medication I take for my epilepsy and the benefits far outweigh the side effects that I experience.

Seriously I think that you need to talk to a health professional regarding the concerns that you have about taking medication. At the moment you're just tying yourself in knots with the 'Should I or shouldn't I?' argument and making your OCD worse.

    I hope that this helps.

  5. sorry David... lol.. not pregnant.. as not been with anyone for a long time lol
but what it is, i think of that thalidomide affair... and how for the grace of God go i...
my mother told me that when she was pregnant with me... she refused to take meds... her doctor kept asking "did you take those pills?" and she said that she was just putting them in her bag and dumping them..
so you see if the pills can affect an unborn baby... what can they do to an adult..? maybe not as much but it is still sounding unhealthy to me... scary really... does anyone really know the affects on the insides etc from long term use of these drugs?

Thanks Bren, and Truddles for your very kind support.. i really appreciate that... i so much want my mind to feel different... and i am avoiding lager now... but polished off a bottle of organic wine over the weekend... but nothing helps..you see i now have fear of meds..and if i do take them i will do so with guilt and fear each time i pop a pill..Truddles i dont think i would believe anything that health professionals tell me..i am so doubtful of everything.. but desperately need a change or my life is going down the drain.

  6. Dear blueboy

I'm sorry but I really don't know what I can suggest. You have medication but you can't bring yourself to take it. We each have to make our own decisions on these things, but everything we take has side effects (especially alcohol) and my experience with Meds has been very few side effects.

In fact given the reduction in OCD, I would happily take side effects as I would much rather have those than OCD.

But if you are set against Meds then that is a decision you have to make for yourself. Taking one won't help - yo need to stay on them for a long time, months at least, before the full benefit will apply. If you can't bring yourself to do that then I would strongly suggest you go down the therapy/cbt path as soon as possible.
