Just want to share with you all something that happened last week. We got a call on the OCD Action helpline from a person who was having real problems with their landlord. This landlord wanted to visit frequently and send workmen over etc... The person's OCD meant that they found this very hard and they were desperate to get into housing association housing. At the interview with the housing association the person shared with the panel the fact that they have OCD and some unpleasant thoughts. After that the interview went downhill.
We managed to get Jude on the case who spoke to the association and explained to them how OCD works and what unpleasant thought actually are - the next day the caller was offered accommodation - they were delighted and felt that without help from the advocacy service they would be stuck where they were.
This is just one recent case, we have been running the advocacy service for about 6 months now and there are lots of stories like this. We are really starting to make very tangible improvements in peoples lives.
