  1. Hello

I was diagnosed with 'Pure O' by my CAMHS consultant, and she game the SSRI Fluxotine 20mg to take for a month. I was just wondering what effects does it have on the body? I've been taking it for 8 days now and today I feel a little bit happier than I have been and I've also been playing my games console online again, after having bad thoughts.

Does Fluxomine make you feel less anxious?

What is it actually meant to do?

I've also found I've been a little shaky recently. Is this a side effect?

    Thanks

    Jon

  2. Hello, it could take about 3 weeks until you start feeling the full benefit from taking fluoxetine ( prozac ).
I have taken them for years with no side effects, if you do experience any side effects dont worry because they will soon subside, they are also very good for anxiety and help with ocd, try not to worry about feeling shaky that will go when the fluoxetine kicks in properly.

    Take care,

  3. Hi I have just started Citalopram for PMS and felt shaky for a few days. I am now on my 4th week and feel fine. It has really helped with my PMS but I am not convinced it has done much for my OCD (not that it was prescribed for that anyway).

  4. HiJon iam also just starting to take prozac again after being off it for a while. I have found prozac to be very good with ocd symptons and to be honest with you the only reason i stopped taking it was because i had thought i would be able to manage fine without it as i had been doing great on it. After comeing off it i now realise just how much the prozac was helping. I have also been feeling a little shaky and i have only been on it for four days. I also feel like i have one big hangover at the minute (i wish) so as i know i havent been drinking for weeks then i guess that is either a side effect from the prozac or just stress. Either way i am sure when things kick in i will feel better. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Brennie, It’s so good to see you here. I’ve been so worried. You are probably sick of my messages! Have you been doing badly?

I have to say I think Prozac can take far longer than three weeks before the full benefit is felt. Some say it can be twelve weeks and certainly one friend was about to give up after that time, but noticed a reduction in her obsessions on the thirteenth week.

    Very relieved, Liz!

P.S. Although side-effects do normally subside, they don’t always. Mine didn’t. Read the leaflet carefully and any side-effects that need reporting do let your doctor know. Most people do seem fine on Prozac, but a few have to stop taking it.

  7. Hi Anxious, my consultant suggested the last time I went for an appoitment that I went on same drug as yourself, he told me to think about it, but when I read side effects I wasn't happy how do you find the drug. As i go back this week and need to give my decision.
    Thanks

  8. I am 32 yrs old house wife from India. In fact it all started when I saw white patches ( leucoderma) on the body of my mother, three yrs after my marriage.Instantly the thought came in my mind that it is a genetic linked disease so it will catch me or my hubby and 2yrs old daughter. Later I lost my sleep for about15 days. I was sleepless and restless and extremely dipressed. Pictures of white leucoderma infected patients revolved in my eyes which was very hard to suppress. At that time I was 2weeks pregnant also. Later no because of this my pregnancy was terminated due to miscarriage. Later on I went to the Psychiatrist and was dognosed OCD. I was given Peroxitene up to 50 mg along with Lamotrigine 200 mg and clonzepem 0.5 mg. I recovered well and the medication was lasted for about 3yrs up to Jan 2010. I was alright upto July 2010 without any symptoms of disease. All of sudden on July 2010 I explored one tiny scare on my hand , which I realize that is scar of burning by droplet of boiling oil but immediately the old pictures of leucoderma patient restarted coming in my mind. Later I revisited my Phy. who initially tried to counsel about the disease but it went in vein. Later I was given the earlier medication i.e. peroxitine 50 mg + Lamotrigine 200 mg + clonzepem 2.0 mg but the response was not god as earlier. Now I am on Fluvoxamine 200 mg+ amotrigine 200 mg + clomipramineHCI 75 mg +Lorazepam 3.0 mg since last 40 dyas. Now I feel half cured sometimes. But certain times I feel anexicity. Will I fully recover from this illness? How long Ill have to take this medication? I want to plan for having another child! Are these medicines safe for the pregnant women?
I am very much confused. As such I don't have any family or financial crises. But still suffering from this disease. Please help. I will be highly obliged for your kind help and suggestion

  9. Hello

Well, I don't feel any better during the day, but I do in the afternoon/evening. Not as shaky as I was, but somedays you feel better, others you don't!

Mamta, It is perhaps wrong of me to answer your question, because I don't want to alarm you or anyone else. But my personal experience of clomipramine is that it can harm an unborn baby. I don't think it's ideal to plan a baby when we are on any psychiatric medication, but obviously people do and they usually give birth to healthy babies.

I don’t believe any of us are cured, it’s a biological condition, but many do find relief from treatment (some far more than others). I found my worst years were when I was pregnant or caring for my young children. A combination of stress and hormone changes, I would imagine.

Jon, it really is early days on your Prozac, it could take 12 weeks to have its full effect (possibly even longer).
