  1. Hi, I'm new to this site so don't know how it all works just yet, sorry.

Basically I've had OCD for about 3 years, going through the usual ups and downs of it all. But over the summer it got SO much worse, is now at an all-time-low and just as started college!

The thing is, everyone else my age (I'm 17) is so laid back, I feel like noone else there really understands me. Is there anyone else who feels like that? Is there anyone else my age who has OCD too?

  2. HI
I'm not your age but there are lots of people on here who are. Just to say welcome to the forum.

  3. Yep, when I was 17 and at college, I was completely on edge and alone in my world

  4. Oh, I'm 29 by the way. I didn't realise this was in the teens forum, which has aggravated my OCD slightly

  5. Hey,
I'm 17 as well, and I know how hard it is being our age and having ocd, its why I joined the site in the first place. But I know how it feels; what you have to think is that everyone else has their problems (at least this kind of worked for me) and i found evidence in this because I found out that the most bubbly, chilled person in my psychology class had a cataclysmically bad eating disorder.
Anyway if you need to talk to someone else our age I'm here.
    Xx

  6. Hi. I'm 29, and I've had OCD since I was little. It got particularly bad when I was 17 and in my first year of A levels. At first, I felt like I was 'different'and 'abnormal', but then, when I discussed it with my two best friends, I discovered that they also had the condition!

You're going through a stressful time in your life right now, and you need support and understanding. Do you feel able to confide in any of your friends or family members? Other people might not actually be as 'laid back' or having as much fun as you imagine, and it's likely that many will have similar problems.

Although some of my teachers were brilliant, because I didn't tell them about my condition, some were less understanding. Ironically, one of the teachers complained that I was 'too laid back', and I felt like I was on the verge of having a nervous breakdown!

I found that my OCD could affect things like my punctuality, work organisation and definately my confidence levels. Unfortunately, some teachers/ lecturers are inclined to interpret this as being 'uncommitted' and this just makes you feel even worse.

Don't feel ashamed to ask for support and understanding. You're showing a lot of strength by continuing your education and you have enough to contend with, without having to feel isolated and like you must struggle alone.

    Good luck
