  1. Hello,

Some of you might remember me, I haven't posted in a while. But my OCD is going really downhill again, and I keep getting these thoughts that make me feel physically sick. I'm not sure why, but a year ago around this time I went to Italy where I got very bad OCD thoughts, and now it's like it's come back with a vengence. I was ignoring the thoughts quite well but I can't now and keep getting ones which make me feel sick and uncomfortable, revolving around sexual intrusive thoughts and all that insest crap and contamination of that sort of thing and it makes me feel so disgusted with myself.

    Please Help me

  2. Hi,

I'm so sorry that you're having such a rough time at the moment. It could possibly be because you are aware that this time last year the OCD thoughts were so bad that the thoughts are so bad now. You have to hold on to the fact that these are OCD thoughts and it's not your fault and so don't be so hard on yourself.
It might be worth contacting your doctor as things are so bad at the moment and get their advice as to what to do. In the mean time try to keep yourself occupied with things that you enjoy doing and try to be kind to yourself.

  3. Hi Jon,

Not good to hear that you're bad again. Seems to be something to do with the time of year as there are a few old hands feeling low.

Are you still on medication at the moment? Might be worth a chat with the doctor to see whether a review is in order. I don't think it is unusual for anniversarys to make you relapse a little, I still fin October difficult.

Keep in touch. You know you can pm me anytime.

    Hugs
    David

  5. Hi Jon
Good to hear from you but not that you're struggling again. I'm wondering if there is something about this time of year which aggravates your OCD, could it perhaps be a reaction to the stress of your exams a bit like post viral depression. We seem to get extra strength to get through stressful events at the time but suffer afterwards. I agree with David that a trip to the GP would be sensible - and rest your brain with quality relaxation time and as much freedom from stress as you can get. You know the thoughts are crap and you've managed them well in the past so you can do it again.

  6. Hi Jon,

Sorry to hear that you're not too good at the moment. I sympathise with you as I know first hand what it's like to get such horrible intrusions.

When things are that bad for me and I'm not able to cope with the intrusions, apart from seeking extra medical support, I do anything and everything I possibly can to distract myself. I have a wordsearch book that I use for such times, it doesn't get rid of the thoughts but it helps change the theme of the thoughts and helps me to focus on other things.

I have been been knocked completely off my feet several times by bad episodes, that have lasted several weeks at a time, but I have come through the other side again and got some control over them again.

You know already I'm sure, that the more attention we give the thoughts then the more power they have over us so I hope you are mindful of that and hopefully they will ease up soon for you.

    Take care
    Bridget

  7. To all, thank you for your replies, but I don't want to see my GP because I don't want to say what the thoughts are about. It's not as bad now either. But I still have it a bit,

    Thanks again.

  8. Hi Jon
I understand fully and applaud you for trying to deal with the thoughts yourself - but remember they are only thoughts, they are the symptom of an illness and your GP will not think any the less of you whatever their content. I hope you will be able to deal with them adequately using self help techniques but if they do intensify remember that treatment is available.
