Have just found this on the home page of my computer, thought it might be of interest.
Coronation Street newcomer Ian Puleston-Davies has revealed he has battled Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) since childhood.
The actor, who plays loveable rogue Owen Armstrong, has to go through a mental checklist before he sets foot in the Rovers Return.
He told the Mirror: "I worry I'm going to cut my lip or chip my teeth on the glass so that damn pint glass in the Rovers is always going to leave me susceptible to an OCD attack."
He said he has to check the lip of a glass and practise drinking from it even before he starts rehearsing.
"If I waited until we began filming, my OCD - my little evil voice in my head - would say 'it's stained' or 'you've just chipped your teeth'," he said. "There are little minefields everywhere - there could easily be 20 in a scene. But I have a quick, well-rehearsed mental tick-list where I scan a scene beforehand and know the potential pitfalls."
The condition can affect him socially too, and he admitted he has had to make excuses not to go to lunch with his Corrie castmates for fear of cracking his coccyx when he sits down.
In the 1990s, the actor's OCD was affecting him so much he considered pursuing an alternative career. But after seeking help, he was treated with drugs and therapy.
He has since stopped taking the medication, but will begin Cognitive Behavioural Therapy later this year as his OCD problems have returned.
"You are never cured of OCD - it's a battle every day," he added.
Owen is set to ruffle feathers in the Street when both Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) and Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Clever) battle for his affections.
