  1. Hi

I have been on Citalopram for some time now and I seem to be constantly tired and drowsy.
It is particularly hard to wake up and stay alert later in afternoon/evening, and the remander of the day is just a drowsy muddle.

I wondered if anyone else had experience of this medication and if they had the same effects or if they go away?

I mentioned it to my GP who took my blood pressure, which was spot on, and I had blood tests done, which returned normal, so it's definately the meds.
I know that depression can affect tiredness, etc, but it's defintely got worse since taking the medication.

I don't think I can continue this mediaction as I am not getting enough done in the day and I don't think the tiredness ever goes away on Citalopram?
So, I need to decide whether to try something else - I was on Fluoxetine before - or come off the meds completely?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Good night all & take care.

  3. A good 40 minutes on the treadmill in the evenings could help. I find that Citalopram makes me drowsy in the same way it does yourself. I find that sprint exercises can also help, such as 10 minutes on an exercise bike and a rowing machine. And you alternate between a relaxed minute and a sprinting minute i.e. going as fast as you can.

Try to find a passion that can motivate you too. This can help with the effects of the medication. When I'm not dancing, I'm writing a short-story.
