  2. Hi dippy, I also have a daughter with ocd, she is 16. I have experienced exactly the same with her dad. We first realised she had a problem a year ago and he has only just come to terms with it. He wouldn't talk about it,he even suggested it was in my mind and not hers. You're right, it does get you down. When she was referred to the Maudsley he was totally against it. I started to tell him everything she did with regard to her ocd and gradually his eyes opened to it. He was in denial, he didn't want to see it. I think sometimes men don't cope well when they think they haven't protected their little girls from something. Now he is great. Still doesn't understand it, but will do what he can to help her. Hang in there I am sure he will come round.

  3. Hi dippy,

I don't have a child with OCD but I was a child with OCD, it took many years of knowing something was wrong with me but not knowing what.

I am 44 now and have had it since about 10 years old, my parents didn't talk about anything and brushed it under the carpet so to speak and it got worse and worse until I was 35 years old before I was diagnosed.

Try to explain to your childs father how important it is to adress it as the sooner you get the help the better it will be for your daughter.

My son has a serious health condition and it took few years for my husband to actually acknowledge that he had anything wrong, hopefully your childs father will come around to the idea soon.
