  1. Hi everyone, I suffer from intrusive thoughts as you know, these have settled down but been replaced by excessive worry. My son has a physical condition and we went to the hospital yest and have been referred to another specialist because his back has a slight curve.

I have been freaking out this morning, I don't seem able to control these worries, I worry about everything excessively. I know everything seems worse at the mom as i have been going through bad patch but the anxiety is killing me.

How do others cope at these times please as I need help.

  2. Hi Bridget -

I can relate. But I can't really help, other than saying: tell yourself as intensely as you can that you did everything within your powers that could be done. Pray (it works for me). We are not superhuman, we can do our best, and that is it.

Sorry for this sounding so meagre. Hang on in there!

    Ciao, Cuthbert.

    Hi Bridget

You are not catastrophising about this - you are just a worried mum. I am so sorry about your son. I know you have strong faith - so, as Cuthbert says, pray - I am sure it will help. I will pray for you and your son too.

I am really looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. In the meantime I have my mobile with me and so please ring anytime.

    Much love
    Anne

  4. Hi Bridget,

So sorry you're still going through a bad patch. It's precisely because you're such a good mother that you're worrying.

You have my number in the meantime.

I'll PM you later but I must get the laundry on or I'll be attending tomorrow in just underwear. Sorry too much info especially for those of a nervous disposition

    Love
    Trudy

    Hi Bridget
I don't know whether this will help or not but some years ago I was referred to a hospital beacuse I had a small lump in my breast. The doctor was very offhand, oh yes, we'll have that out for you next week - end of consultation. I was so worried I cried for about two hours before I could leave the hospital - and they were not sympathetic - my anxiety went off the scale. Then I took myself to the library and read everything I could find on breast cancer - and learned that I there was a 98% chance that the lump would be benign. That helped me enormously.
Now, when I am really worried about something I try to learn everything I can about it, this helps to channel the OCD and helps to calm me - because the OCD mind will just latch on to the worst possible thing that could happen - and you may well find your son's slight curvature can be corrected. I am no medical expert but a chiropractor once told me my neck was 3 inches further forward than it should be - this is because of decades of administrative work with not very good eyesight and yes, I realise I have a bit of a hump, but it doesn't hurt or stop me doing what I want to do - only the OCD does that.
All I can say Bridget is that this worked for me but for others it could make the anxiety even worse, you are the best judge of how to help your own anxiety but I do hope you get good news soon and relief from this extra burden. Joyce

  6. Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. The worried thoughts are coming in waves and are so severe I feel almost panic stricken. I know I am thinking the worst because thats what OCD does to you and the worst probably won't happen. I am like this all the time these days and don't seem able to talk myself out of it. I've been worrying that my children will have OCD as well and that is something I couldn't bear.

i've got CBT in a couple of hours so hopefully that will help and you have all helped by your replies.

    See you all tomorrow

I'm sorry to hear about your son, I hope he'll be ok. I wish I could offer some good advice but all I can say is stay strong, and that you are in my thoughts. All the best.

  10. Aishah, I hope that you are feeling much better, I do understand how you feel, I went through a rough patch myself a few months ago, and I know that doubt and worry can bring on extreme and constant anxiety. Try to block the thoughts out of your mind, talk to the OCD, and tell it to leave you alone, Tell it that you refuse to let it take over your thoughts, Don't let it win. Also as mentioned above pray, pray, pray, it has helped me so much to do that. You are in my thoughts and you will get through this.

  11. Thanks everyone for your replies, it has helped me. The CBT therapist managed to put things into perspective for me, I just wish I could do it for myself.
Anyway, I hope you are all well.
