  1. Hi all -

yesterday, I learned a couple of things about meeting deadlines on this forum. I am occupied at the moment with writing essays (overviews) on OCD and major depression (MDD). Due to my own penchant for absolute completeness, progress was hampered in the past year or so. I decided to limit myself (during a night with little sleep and many thoughts, something not unfamiliar to numerous posters here).

Therefore I will do something on the biological/neurological side of OCD first. MDD will be placed on the backburner.

I will post about important new developments in the field here (genetic and environmental issues, brain function, brain structure, and so on).

And I want to update my weblog on OCD on a more consistent basis. Especially since I got the 10,000th visit on said weblog a few days ago (and I am proud of that). Stats show that there are some 100 loyal followers daily).

Herewith I invite you people to drop by on the blog. The address is:

    http://www.ocdinformation.wordpress.com

Feel free to comment and/or review posts there. I am also happy with criticism and suchlike - no problem at all. The blog serves no commercial purposes (otherwise I wouldn't link it here).

Oh, and: to the moderators of this very site: thank you for all the fine efforts and help you provide for us, people with an invisible but vexing disorder. I have a question: did you ever consider an 'edit'-function for our comments here? Well, it's not a life necessity, but it would come in handy...

    Cheers, Cuthbert.

  2. Hi Cuthbert,

Thank you for your kind words.

The edit function is available to forum members for five minutes after posting to allow for corrections and changes to be made. The reason it is time limited is because if someone edits their post after there have been replies from other members it can make those replies appear to be nonsense or out of context and this can be distressing to those people who have replied especially given the ways that OCD can affect some people. In the early days of the forum it was possible to edit at any time and to prevent the problem described it was considered to be best to time limit the edit function.

Keymasters and moderators can edit any post at any time without time limit for obvious reasons. They will also consider editing or deleting an entire post or thread at the request of a member, however this will only be done in exceptional circumstances such as where it may cause undue distress to a member or members. Contact a keymaster or moderator by PM to request an edit or deletion. Our keymasters and moderators work on a voluntary basis and do the work in their own time therefore there can often be a delay between making a request and the moderators seeing it. We intend to introduce a "Contact a Moderator" button soon that will alert moderators.

It can be helpful to prepare a post using a wordprocessor or notepad or similar software and then copy and paste to the forum Reply Form. This can be especially useful if you have a long reply, also it means that you don't have to complete it all in one go as you can save it and come back to it later.

We are currently looking at ways to improve the forum and you may have noticed some recent changes to the navigation bar that are the first part of our improvements, so we would like to hear from members about any suggestions, improvements and changes they would like to see. In particular we would like to hear views about the edit function. Members can either post them here or let me know via a PM.

I wish you well with your essays.

    Best wishes,
    Nimrod

  3. Hi Nimrod -

thanks for the quick reply and the info therein! The limit imposed on editing makes eminent sense the way you explain it. Since my come-back I looked only later at my own stuff, and hence the edit-option was gone (in some cases I might have overlooked it).

The idea about making a Word-document first, and after checking it copy-pasting it here, is excellent.

All the best with your fine work - it really helps people to feel better and give each other advice.

    Ciao, Cuthbert.
