  1. I read this is a fairly common disorder yet there seems to be very little support or information. Related disorders are well heard of- Anorexia, OCD etc but where is the awareness of BDD? Where are you fellow BDD sufferers?! And are there any support groups in Cheshire?! I feel like I'm alone in this, apart from, interestingly my sister has the disorder to a very sever extent.

  2. Hi Amy -

I could try to find some factual info for you about BDD. It is a serious disorder, that can incapacitate people, and cost a lot of money. You might visit my weblog on OCD; I also write about related disorders. If you type BDD in the search function, you will find two chapters that are BDD-related. The main topic is OCD, but anyway, I have access to scientific literature on all medical topics, so if you would like to know specifics, let me know. For instance, there seems to be a intriguing link between BDD and the functioning of your visual system. That is an issue I want to explore in depth in the near future.

You are invited to PM me about it.

Hope I could help a bit,

    Ciao, Cuthbert.

  4. Hi Caps -

from the sideline: thank you for the hint about David Veale to Amy. I looked up his name at Pubmed and just found a nice new learning perspective re: his work on OCD.

    Cheers, Cuthbert.

  5. Where is the awareness of BDD? There is some out there i am currently reading a book called "overcoming body image problems including BDD" its a self-help guide using Cognitive behavioral techniques , quite interesting , unfortunately though i agree with you there's not enough information on this disorder i know how heart wrenching it can be as i also suffer , i know i dont have ocd i have bdd , the trouble for us bdd'ers is that a lot of people have never heard of bdd (the trouble for ocd'ers is the term ocd gets used by people who haven't got a clue what ocd really is) it does however seem that there's quite a bit more guidance and information out there for ocd and although i may be completely wrong not as much shame in admitting you have it , i believe there are many many thousands millions maybe just like us who suffer from bdd but they don't realize it they just go on hating themselves believing in what there mixed up thoughts are telling them or perhaps they are far too ashamed to admit it its very personal , it took the doctors etc 16 years until they finally told me i have this thing called bdd how ive managed to survive this long i will never know but finally after years of waiting i started my first day at cbt today i so much hope this will help me although its seems my therapist knows very little about bdd and admitted im the first person she has seen with this disorder , we cant blame anyone for there not being enough information on this disorder we can however educate ourselves by going online reading and trying to listen to our own thoughts and feelings , if i were you id get to the doctor and ask about cbt and medication , good luck.
