  1. Really struggling at the moment to tackle magical thinking that's plagued me for years. This is part of the CBT that's recently started, as my therapist mentioned (rather disdainfully) and I suddenly felt ashamed at allowing it for so long. It was the way my therapist mentioned 'magical thinking' that brought home to me how wrong it was. But it's hard to stop when your brain has been thinking that way for years on end.

  2. Hi sweeteater
Can't help you with this myself because I have a different form of OCD but if you type magical thinking in the forum topic search box you will find lots of previous threads on this subject which might help you.

  3. Hi sweet eater.

The idea that we have resoonsibility for all things and if we don't do something it will cause harm should not be treated with disdain by a therapist as it is a core part of OCD. My therapist was always sympathetic but never joined in. She merely told me that if I could predict the future I should buy lottery tickets.

I suppose for the therapist it is stough to address since we always have another "what if" or "but how can I be certain". So I suppose I have some sympathy. But disdain is inappropriate,

    Hugs

  5. Hi,
Ive done majical thinking for as long as I can remember, mine is that I have to think something bad will happen so that something good will happen. Take care can you ask for a different therapist.

  6. Hi all
My therapist is generally quite good but I think that disdainful tone was a blip, and it didn't have a good effect initially. But it made me think about the magical thinking whereas before I swept it under the carpet and didn't deal with it. Magical thinking has become a habit, but I think I should make an effort to stop. It's a way of thinking that the brain easily gets into.
Blueboy, I know it's your main OCD issue from your other posts, and I know it is hard. I'm going to speak more to my therapist about this, because I think talking it through will get to the core reason I'm doing it. A need to control?
It is a habit though, brain starts to think like it all the time then
