Hi Giles !
Thank you for your e mail.
I think it would be terrific if you could set up a support group in your area. Your age is perfect, and being in your late twenties, you will be able to reach out to a wide age range of people who lives have been touched by OCD.
My particular form of OCD has been helped enormously since setting up the support group. I have met some terrific people - sufferers/carers - who have inspired and encouraged me, and the group has gone from strength to strength, with the support of OCD Action.
Unfortunately, I have not received your PM, but if you would like to e mail me on ocd.npton@yahoo.co.uk we could talk more, and I can tell you how I first went about starting up the group last year, and what was done to promote awareness of the group, and make it accessible to people in the area.
Look forward to hearing from you
Regards
Julia hi!

Caps told me that you would be the best person to talk to about this. I recently found out that I am Obsessive Compulsive and have found a safe haven after a long long time where I can share my thoughts and feelings with people that understand. For 2 years, I've never really been able to talk to anyone, because I've been too guilty and ashamed.

I want to set up a support group. I really want to meet people like me. I'm so uncomfortable making conventional friends and would like to be with people like me. I really feel this would benefit me in a big way, particularly developing my people skills and finally being somewhere where I'd feel safe and make a genuine difference in Glastonbury. I really want to help people like me. I guess what I'm asking is how did you go about organising your group? And what would you advise I do to set one up? Am I mature enough for it too? I'm 28 you see.

Giles
p.s. I know it has nothing to do with your post, so I really do apologise about that. Its just I'm not sure if you received my private message.

Ive just been listening to the Mario Lanza story on the BBC I Player and was surprised to discover that Mario Lanza had an eating disorder. He used to eat excessively to make himself overweight as he believed that he could sing better when he was big, and then he would go on a crash diet to slim down, so he could play the acting roles in the movies that starred in. This bingeing coupled with starvation dieting would have put great strain on all his organs including his heart, and almost certainly contributed to his untimely premature death in 1959.
