Now that has got to be my all time favourite film, ' The five heart beats' song by pattie labelle and the five heart beats, ' We haven't finished yet'. Don't know if anyone has heard of it, but you can listen to it on youtube.

The film reflects my childhood and my brothers, being the only sister, we use to sing together at home , our way of coping with sadness but also how music became the biggest therapy that was to heal us in so many ways. The film is fantastic, and it holds the core of my inspiration to keep on learning and become at better person, overcoming all kinds of diversity and shining at the end of it. Facing all kinds of struggles, and having developing my own spirituality and faith to understand myself and others, and alway as the song says, we haven't finished yet, life long learning!!!

Whenever I listen to this song, it breaths life of how far I have come in journey to healing.

I also love "Vincent". Is that popular in your part of the world?

I've just realized you were talking earlier about Brian Wilson. I believe Fred Toates wrote about him in his book, in the section on celebrities with OCD.

Don't know, Cuthbert. The only version I know is by Tim Hardin, back in the 60s, I think! It may well be the same, I know I can't hear it without sobbing, as my husband is a compulsive liar!!

Hi Tricia -

is that 'Reason To Believe' as in: 'Rod Stewart'? If it is: it's a majestic song from a majestic album. 'Every Picture Tells A Story' is ace.

"You Left Me, Just When I Needed You Most" and "Reason To Believe"

The first, because it's what my husband has always done when I am at my worst and need him the most, and the second because it's about lies and a desperate need to believe. As OCD sufferers we have to know we can trust people, even more than most.

And, if he reads this it will be "IT'S OVER"! You have to laugh at this life, don't you or "It's Cryin' Time Again" or "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain".

I'm rebelling a little, as you might have guessed!

Hi Helz -

I saw the former leader of the Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, live in concert three times (London and Amsterdam, 2002 and 2004). He was completely brilliant, and has one of the best live bands on the planet backing him.

That said, his life story is immensely touching, but sad. He's a victim of childhood abuse of the worst kind. In 1967, he fell victim to severe depression and anxiety, and started using drugs as some form of helpless self-medication. He retreated into his bed and stayed in there literally for years on end. He used cocaine, weed, heroin, very much alcohol, and smoked around 4 packs of cigarettes each day.

In 1982, he had reached his low point and was on the verge of collapsing with a fatal heart attack. He was 'abducted' (by family and a psychologist's team) to Hawaii, and brought back to some form of normality - but then the psychologist smelled fame for himself and prescribed legal, but wrong medication to him, to turn him into a 'puppet' without any will, so that he would obey his psychologist, and hand over a lot of his income to that man.

It was only around 1995 that Brian Wilson became more or less a person of his own again. He started performing live, the hardest thing in the world for him. But it worked.

Still, there is irreversible damage visible in the man. Especially the medication he got in his 'therapy' robbed him of some elemental human skills. He's now on Fluvoxamine, does not smoke or use illicit drugs, and drinks one can of beer every now and then.

Miraculously, he survived two brothers, Carl and Dennis. He is 67 years of age now and is recording two CDs as I write. One will have famous songs from Disney movies on it, the other has classic Gershwin melodies.

All in all, an amazing story of human spirit, strength, and survival.

Good to have you here, Rod!

The Beach Boys was another band I grew up with, even though there were decades before my time, haha! I was exposed to a lot of great but ecletic music when I was a kid...and now I listen to such rubbish, lol.

Mine would be Journey's 'Don't Stop Believin'.

The lyrics don't mean much to me but the message I get from the song is 'to keep trying to be the best person you can be in life and no matter how hard life gets, always be true to yourself and try to reach those far away dreams'.

I don't know why I feel that way with this song but it does help me sometimes, it is not even my favourite Journey track either, lol.

My favourite is probably 'Faithfully'. Lol.

Hmmm, I used to like Keane. Sadly, Radio 1 and Absolute Radio (formely Virgin) butchered their songs by playing them a million times in one day.

Ah yes, that's a good one. Simon Cowell's rather ruined it for me though now. It's great that he's done it for charity, but they destroyed the song.

Great responses, guys, some good songs there! I like a bit of Queen myself, I grew up listening to what my dad listens to, and there was always a lot of Queen playing in our house! Freddy Mercury was a great singer and performer. It's cool that the band still plays but the singers they use are just not the same as Freddy.

Freddy Mercury was one of the best vocalists of all time. Amazing what he could do. Are you a Keene fan? That guy ranks up there too...in my oppinion..but Freddy Mercury was one of a kind.

I'm a queen fan. I wouldn't say I'm a big fan, although I do have singstar queen and have downloaded all of the additional Queen content from singstore. These songs have really helped me through some tough times.

When I got leveled by OCD back in the summer last...again...Everyone who cared about me couldnt understand why I disappeared for a while...I wanted to explain but couldnt...I wanted to feel better but was trapped in it all..I was singing over and over in my head a song called 'I Think God Can Explain' by Splender. The chorus goes
Its alright, I'm okay
I think God can explain
I believe I'm the same...
I get carried away
Its alright, I'm okay
I think God can explain
I'm relieved, I'm relaxed
I'll get over it yet

It calmed me to sing it...I knew what was wrong, and I knew God knew..I just couldnt explain it to anyone else. I dont know what the song is really about, I mean I can guess, but in the summer it was about me.

I love music...love it love it.

I've heard several where I've thought the lyrics could have been about me, but I just heard a song a moment ago where the words really could be about my experience of OCD, or anyone's experience of it. It's called Paper Cut by Linkin Park (I don't normally listen to them but I heard this song by chance). I don't know if I'm allowed to post lyrics, but I'll mention some of the most relevant ones:

I don't know what stressed me first/ Or how the pressure was fed/ But I know just what it feels like/ To have a voice in the back of my head/ It's like a face that I hold inside [...] A face that laughs every time I fall

I know I've got a face in me/ Points out all my mistakes to me

So are there any songs that you guys have heard that really struck you and reflected how you feel? Are there any that you listen to that maybe help cope when you're feeling especially low, like a cathartic experience?

Sorry for another fairly random post!
