Safety on the OCD Action Forums

We at OCD Action want you to feel safe and secure on your forums.

We make every effort to ensure the safety of users whilst they are on the forums. To this end we have Keymasters and Moderators who read all the posts but only intervene where appropriate, that is if there has been a breach of forum rules.

Should you at anytime on the forum feel unsafe and this includes when using the PM system, we ask that you contact either a Keymaster or one of the Moderators and we will do our best to help you.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Keep your password secret and never try to gain this information from other users. Do not steal or scam passwords from other users.

The best way to stay safe is to keep contact to within the forums, therefore think twice before giving out your email address, phone numbers or address. Whilst every effort is made to ensure members safety whilst within the confines of the forums, it’s not quite so easy to deal with once you step outside the forums.

UNDER 18s

It is especially advisable for the under 18s to not give out any personal information that can identify them such as full name, address, email address, phone numbers, where they live or go to school etc. You should for your own personal safety remain anonymous and stay within the safety of the forums and the PM system.

BULLYING HARASSMENT AND ABUSE

Bullying, harassment and abuse including violent and aggressive behaviour both on and off the forum will not be tolerated by OCD Action. If you feel that you are being bullied or are experiencing any difficulties with another user on or off the forum, we ask you to contact either a Keymaster or one of the Moderators. Please do not try to deal with it in public on the forums.

PRIVATE MESSAGES (PMs) AND WIRES

Please be aware that although PMs can only be read by the sender and recipient, wires can be seen by everyone including those who aren’t logged in. So when posting a wire on your profile page or on a friends profile page do not write anything of a confidential nature that you don’t want others to see.

REPORTING A POST

If you see a post that you think doesn’t comply with the rules of the forum then we ask that you report it. To do this you will find underneath each post the word ‘report’ (you need to be logged on). Click on the word ‘report’ and then in the window that appears type in your reason for reporting the post and then click on ‘submit report’  It will then be dealt with in an appropriate manner by a Keymaster or Moderator.

OUTSIDE LINKS

The Moderators do try to check all links that are posted on the forum; however it is not always possible to determine if a link has a virus or other malware attached to it. If a link with a virus etc is detected then the link will be deleted and a message will be posted by one of the Moderators. Links to inappropriate material, e.g. pornography and advertising are also deleted and appropriate action is taken against people posting such links. Forum users should satisfy themselves about the safety and suitability of any links. OCD Action cannot be held responsible for any external content.

Our advice is to have an anti-virus/malware facility on your PC and ensure it is up to date and to determine the suitability of material shown using, if appropriate, parental controls. Some ISPs provide a free anti-virus/malware service but others don’t. Anti-virus/malware software is readily available online and from computer outlets.

FORUM USERS ARE ALSO REMINDED OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Users should not give the impression that they are a professional when they are not.
  • Users should not tell others what to do with regards to medication, treatment etc but can offer suggestions.
  • Users can offer help, support and advice but can't make diagnoses or directives as to what another user must do.
  • Treat other users as you would wish to be treated!
  • Remember that a crime in a virtual world is as serious as it is in the real world.

FINALLY OCD ACTION WANTS YOU TO FEEL SAFE AND SECURE ON YOUR FORUMS.
