Climb Every Mountain

Next week, on Friday 1st September, four 13 year old boys will be taking on an absolutely incredible challenge.

Abe Yantin, Jonah Horne, Ben Goodkind and Malakai Shaffer are no strangers to inspirational feats: last year they climbed the towering Mount Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales. Not satisfied with such an already momentous feat, they decided that they'd spend the next two years taking on Ben Nevis and Scafell Pike in a "Three Peaks in Three Years" challenge, raising money for a different charity each year!

The reason for their challenge is simple: the boys all consider themselves very lucky to be able to take on feats like this, and are very aware that many people, due to illness and disability both mental and physical, would not be able to join them. So they will be scaling dizzying heights to raise money and awareness for those who can't do it themselves.

So this year, the four adventurers will be taking on Ben Nevis, the Scottish behemoth which holds the claim for the highest mountain in the entire British Isles.

Not only this, but they have chosen OCD Action as one of their charities!

Abe, Jonah, Ben and Malakai were inspired by the experiences of a family friend, David Goldstone, who recently took part in the British 10K for us and whose daughter lives with the debilitating condition.

The boys wrote:
OCD is not all about cleaning or checking the front door. In fact OCD is serious and debilitating.

Imagine not being able to attend school, showering for hours on end, becoming restricted to one room to live in and afraid of your fathers cuddle all due to OCD and anxiety; well it happens behind closed doors and it is happening to friends of our parents – We want to help.

The boys are also walking for Brain Tumour Research, a cause which is also very personal to them.

We think it's absolutely amazing what Ben, Malakai, Jonah and Abe are doing at such a young age. Equally impressively, they've managed to raise an astonishing £1,544 for OCD Action. This will do a great amount to help people living with the devastating condition of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder all over the country and allow us to run our vital services. Their total for both charities so far is £3,689.35, which is an achievement they should be very, very proud of.

Thank you so much to Malakai, Ben, Abe and Jonah for all you are doing to help people with OCD. We would like to wish you all the very best of luck on your ascent.
